Alcoa Foundation Grant

The Alcoa Foundation awarded $15,000 to the Colockum Natural Resource Center in December, 2010-December, 2011.

The goal is to install improvements to the infrastructure currently in place at the CNRC that will:

a) insure building suitability for expanded use and participant safety;
b) improve suitability of site for use with a wider student audience than previously intended;
c) provide correct signage and install directional signs where needed;
d) repair or replace worn out equipment.

This is the initial phase in building a program that will allow site use by schools to bring students and teachers to the site for natural resource education, area families, and individuals . Buildings at the CNRC have been neglected for several years by the previous lease holder and need considerable work to make them suitable for the new uses intended by Chelan County Extension.

In October, 2011, Alcoa workers spent a day at the CNRC to do additional work insulating water pipes and installing “skirting” around the classroom.
