4-H Horse Projects

Members must be enrolled in the Horsemanship project by May 1st. Your club may want you to also specify which of the following discipline you plan to participate in: “Performance Horse,” “Western Games,” “Dressage,” “Reining,” “Green Horse,” “Mini Horse,” “Driving,” “Jumping,” or “Horseless Horse.”

**Members must be age 8 by October 1st of the 4-H year to enroll in large animal projects.

Member’s project horses must be selected and included on the Club’s Member/Horse list by May 1st (changes made after May 15th are subject to the Grievance Procedure).

Members must be in possession of their animal 90 days before the county qualifying event.

Members who are borrowing/leasing their project animals are strongly encouraged to use the WSU Feed Lease Agreement.

Signed Fair Release forms from each member are due by May 1st (or prior to riding at the fairgrounds).

Horses may be any breed. Horses do not need to be registered.

Animals will be vet. checked prior to enter in fair and must be free of parasites and diseases.

Vaccinations recommended by WA State 4-H Fair: West Nile Virus, Equine monocytic-ehrlichiosis (potomac horse fever-PHF), Rhinopneumonitis, (Equine Herpes Virus, EHV-1), influenza, and tetanus.
