Value-Adding Grains with Local and Direct Markets: Winter Grain Field Day

May 20, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 2:30 pm

$25

Marketing grains to direct and/or local markets can be a way for growers to capture considerably more value from grain crops. Because grains also serve as excellent rotational crops, adding value to them helps keep larger tracts of farmland producing viable returns. Join WSU Extension at the 78th St. Heritage Farm to learn more about winter grain varieties that may be well-suited for local and direct markets, and WSU and OSU’s efforts to support a local grain economy in the western PNW. Four select wheats and barleys from WSU’s Bread Lab and OSU’s Barley Project along with two European varieties of hybrid rye will be on display. Representatives from local grain markets will be present to introduce growers to local market opportunities and the quality of grain they’re looking for.
