10:30 am             Fitting & Showing Classes for everyone Followed by optional Showing Opportunity

Members who plan to exhibit market steers at the Kittitas County Fair must have their animal(s) weighed at this time.  This is a required event.  Youth are also reminded that they are required to turn in a PRODUCER SIGNED COPY of the Producer/Breeder Affidavit & Market Animal Health Record for each steer that they weigh.

After the steers are weighed-in and tagged there will be a REQUIRED Kittitas County Fair Information meeting in Bloom Pavilion for participants and parents. Following this meeting will be the Beef Judging contest which is open to all livestock members to participate in.  The judging contest will have classes of Feeder Steers, Heifers, Dairy, Beef Parts, and Oral Reasons.

Following the Beef Judging Contest youth that ear tagged steers are required to participate in Showmanship classes.  Steers are to be clean with no tags. They do not need to be fitted.

  • Steer should be shown with a halter & show stick.
  • Showman should have neat clean clothes and boots – appropriate to weather.

Showmanship guidelines are the same as showing at Fair.  After Showmanship classes there will be an optional Showing opportunity.  This is an opportunity to prepare for showmanship classes in the fall.

Dairy and Beef Heifer projects are required to attend the Beef Pre-Show March 24, 2018.  Youth without a market animal are required to bring the animal that they will be participating with in Fitting and Showing.  If you have a market steer you are not required to bring your Dairy or heifer animal but it is recommended.   This is a good opportunity to prepare your animal for Fitting and Showing this fall and to ask questions you might have.

Exhibitors who have a conflict with the March 24 date are required to write a letter to the Livestock Committee Chairman, 901 E 7th Avenue, Suite 2, Ellensburg, WA 98926 asking to be excused from the Beef Clinic by March 20 to be at the Livestock Committee meeting. The letter needs to be written by the 4-H or FFA member requesting the excuse, address the reason for not attending, who will weigh the animal and a plan to make up for this missed activity.  The 4-H Livestock Committee will review these requests.  Members must have another exhibitor weigh their steer in their absence.

Vehicles should enter at the 5th Avenue gate, unload their animals, and park north of the livestock barns, south & west of Umtanum & Teanaway Hall, or in the Maintenance parking lot south of Bloom Pavilion.

Please remember to bring a water bucket for your animals and some feed. Also bring rakes and equipment to clean pens out before you leave! Each club needs to be in the same general area.  Please write your name on all your equipment! Check out with Superintendents before you leave the Beef Pre-Show.
