Only 11 Days Until Fair Haul In!

Dear 4-H Members,

Dates to know!

  • August 5th – Sheep Shearing 9:30am-11:00am at the Fairgrounds. $10 a head.
  • August 7th – 4-H Council Meeting 6:30pm at the Hegewald Center in Stevenson. Followed directly by the Horse Advisory Board Meeting.
  • August 10th – Horse Work Day 6pm mandatory for all Horse Project Members exhibiting at fair. Equine Record Books Due.
  • August 12th – 13th Barns Open for Decorating
  • August 12th – Exhibitor Hall Entries Due 9am-3pm Photography, Fine Arts, Youth Arts, Needle Art, Fiber Arts, Clothing, Home Economics, Preserved Foods, Arts & Crafts, & Booth Display Set-Up!
  • August 12th – Open Performance Horse Show at the Skamania County Fairgrounds
  • August 13th – Exhibitor Hall Entries Due Noon-7pm Photography, Fine Arts, Youth Arts, Needle Art, Fiber Arts, Clothing, Home Economics, Preserved Foods, Arts & Crafts, & Booth Display Set-Up!
  • August 13th – Open Gaming Show at the Skamania County Fairgrounds
  • August 13th – Agriculture Exhibits Due Noon – 7pm at the Exhibitor Hall
  • August 14th – Haul In for Fair! Swine 9:00am – 1:00pm.  All other livestock 2:00pm – 6:00pm.
  • August 14th – Agriculture Exhibits Due 9am-Noon at the Exhibitor Hall
  • August 14th – Fresh Baked Foods Due 8am-8pm at the Exhibitor Hall
  • August 14th – Livestock records & Posters Due at Haul In
  • August 14th – Parade Applications Due to Skamania County Chamber Office
  • August 15th – Fresh Baked Foods Due 8am-11am at the Exhibitor Hall
  • August 15th – Floral Exhibits Due Noon-7pm at the Exhibitor Hall
  • August 16th – Floral Exhibits Due 9am-11am at the Exhibitor Hall
  • August 16th – Fair Opening Ceremony 12:00pm In the Arena

  • August 20th – Pick Up Entries from the Exhibit Hall 2pm
  • September 29th – Oct. 1st – Adult Horse Camp (See info under Resource of the Week)
  • October 20th – 22nd 2017 WA State 4-H Forum  Make a Splash at the Great Wolf Lodge: two days of workshops, awards, speakers, and the event ends with the Washington State 4-H Council.
  • October 28th -29th – Archery & Riflery Training 9-5 in Mt. Vernon, WA. For active volunteers only.  Find all the details at the online signup.

General Information

  • Take a couple of minutes and report your hours for July here: http://ext.wsu.edu/Volunteers/logon.aspx.  Your username is your email and your password is “password!” without the quotation marks.
  • Pending Adults – Any adults not currently approved in 4HOnline are not 4-H Volunteers and are not allowed to serve in any official capacity.  If you need assistance completing your enrollment or if you want to check your status please contact the 4-H Office.
  • Join the Power of Produce (POP) Club tent at the Stevenson Farmers Market Saturdays, July 1st – August 26th – 10am-1pm. Kids can stop by and pick up POP tokens to purchase local produce at the market for FREE!  Fill out a POP Club Password and be entered to win the grand prize – a seasonal family pass for the Stevenson Pool!   • Don’t forget to closely follow the 2017 Fair Schedule and the 2017 Fair Livestock Schedule.
  • Start thinking now about whether you would want to attend State Fair if your project qualifies.  State Fair dates and the premium book are on the Skamania County website.
  • All Skamania County 4-H members are invited to take our 2017 Impact Survey online.  All survey responses are anonymous and completely voluntary.  Our goal is to gain a true understanding of our local 4-H program and we value your response!

With the Skamania County Fair quickly approaching (YEAH!) Abby’s hours in the office are a little more variable.  Please leave a phone message if you call and be aware that your email might not be responded to as promptly as normal.  Missy Cummins, our incredible Regional Specialists, is also busy with not one approaching fair but three!  Your patience is greatly appreciated.

Resource of the Week
Want some extra premium points?  Give your Live Demonstration in the Exhibit Hall during Fair!  Blue ribbons for a live demonstration qualify you to go on and compete at State Fair!  You can provide a video recording and have that played and judged or you can give your demonstration live in front of an audience.  Your Livestock Report Video or Paper could be a great start to a Live Demonstration.  Here is a great resource on how to give a 4-H Public Presentation:
