PRESS RELEASE
STEVENSON PITCHES IN FOR ANNUAL CLEAN-UP DAY, SATURDAY, APRIL 29
(Stevenson, WA – April 17, 2017) The winter of 2017 wreaked havoc on Skamania County and the Columbia Gorge as a whole. Dry weather and the promise of spring has inspired many folks to get out and clean up some of the mess created by the ice, snow and wind. The Stevenson Business Association (SBA) is doing its part by organizing the fifth annual Stevenson Clean-Up Day on Saturday, April 29, 2017.
The business owners of the SBA are asking people around Stevenson to show their community spirit and prepare for the upcoming tourist season by rolling up their sleeves and pitching in to perform “spring cleaning” in Stevenson.
All businesses, public and private agencies and citizens are encouraged to volunteer their time to show pride in their city to visitors and residents alike. The Stand Up 4 Teens Youth Prevention Club are on board again this year. The Stevenson office of Windermere Real Estate plans to participate. April 29 is also National 4-H Day of Service, and local 4-H club members may fortify the efforts. A group from iQ Credit Union will be on hand to help. Any and all people in our community are welcome.
The fun begins at 8:30 am in the Skamania County Chamber parking lot at 167 NW Second Street. Teams will be created and tasks assigned at this time. Projects include branch pick-up, weeding, debris removal, power washing, blackberry eradication and much more. Volunteers are invited to bring their own hand tools, weed eaters, brooms, leaf blowers, etc. Two hours, four hours or all day – whatever time commitment people can make that day will be greatly appreciated.
People unable to arrive at 8:30 am can check in throughout the day at the Chamber office for directions to project sites. The day will culminate around 4:00 pm.
This year, local businesses are providing discounts for incentive. When volunteers check out from their task they will receive vouchers providing a 10% discount for that day (Saturday, April 29) at Andrew’s Pizza, Walking Man Brewing and El Rio Texicantina. Andrew’s will also offer $3 beer with the voucher. A & J Select Market will be barbecuing that day as well and those helping out will get a free lunch.
