Satellite Farming Summit
January 23 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Have you thought about starting a small farming operation? Do you currently farm but are seeking alternative crop options this year? Wouldn’t it be great to grow a crop or raise livestock with a buyer already lined up before the season even starts?
One of the largest challenges facing small farm operations is investing in a product that may or may not have a market. At the same time, another challenge Stevens County faces is buyers looking for locally sourced product and not being able to find it. The purpose of this summit is to connect buyers and producers together in the same room. Come to the Satellite Farming Summit on Monday January 23, 2017 from 1-5 pm at the WSU Stevens County Extension office and meet four presenters looking for local growers to raise a number of Ag products including heritage pigs, sunflowers, barley, field peas, flax, camelina, canola, oats, sweet corn, and wheat.
One presenter, Brad Murphy of Red Bridge Farm, says “More than 90% of what’s in my animal feed could be grown here in Stevens County.” Murphy’s goal is to “keep production local and put money back into farms” as his feed business expands.
Other presenters have a similar goals for sourcing their products locally. Learn what prospective buyers are looking for and have a chance to talk individually with these same buyers. The Satellite Farming Summit is the perfect event to learn about new opportunities for raising well defined local agricultural products for well defined local markets.
