Master Gardeners
WSU Chelan County Master Gardeners like to get our hands dirty. We want to share the dirt on growing healthy plants in the Wenatchee Valley.

For specific questions on managing your landscape, garden,  or insect pests, please contact our Plant & Insect Clinic .

Talk to us at specific times at farmers markets, fairs and special events, and when we are working in our demonstration gardens.

Spring, Summer, and Fall are great for gardening. Join our classes and events to learn more about timely topics.  We are planning our 2024 schedule.  Until then, read about  the topics we offered in 2023, such as:

  • In the CEG, on Western at Springwater, Wenatchee, WA:  1st Fridays in the Veggie Garden, and Third Saturdays, including our annual Tomato Tasting Gala in August.  Read more about our schedule.
  • Wednesday Garden Class Series:  In 2023, we held this series of classes at Celebration Lutheran Community Garden, 801 8th St. NE – East Wenatchee, WA, 6:30pm – 7:30pm.  We are working on this event for 2024. Join us in summer 2024 for gardening tips and ideas for using your fresh produce with WSU Master Gardeners and SNAP-Ed Educators. Enjoy a snack made with fresh garden ingredients. Tour the gardens and get your gardening  questions answered.

  • Spring KPQ Home & Garden Show, March  8-10, 2024 – Town Toyota Center, Wenatchee, WA.  Attend our four classes during this event, and print the flyer:
    • Friday, March 8, 2024 at 4 pm: Shrink the Lawn: Rewilding Your
      Landscape: Embark on this inspiring journey with Susan Peterson. Susan will guide you through her transformation from a conventional lawn to a flourishing, ecologically diverse landscape—all within a single summer. By adopting water-wise techniques and integrating native plants, Susan not only conserved water, reducing her water bill by  hundreds of dollars, but also nurtured a sanctuary for local wildlife. Let’s explore the art of rewilding together!
    • Saturday, March 9, 2024  at 11am: Invaders Unveiled: Tackling Invasive Species: Explore the fascinating world of invasive insects with entomologist Dale Whaley. In this lively seminar, we’ll examine how these unwanted guests affect our environment and cause damage to other organisms, habitats, and human livelihoods. Find out how to detect, prevent, and control these stealthy invaders!
    • Saturday, March 9 2024 at 2 pm: In this engaging workshop, Dirt Diva Bonnie Orr will teach you the art of turning kitchen scraps and yard waste into nutrient-rich soil. From balancing green and brown materials to troubleshooting common  issues, she’ll cover it all.
    • Sunday, March 10 2024 0 at 1 pm: Bee-Lieve it or Not Exploring the Fascinating World of Mason and Leafcutter Bees: Join  Chelsea Lenderman in this captivating workshop as we delve into the remarkable lives of mason and leafcutter bees. These unsung heroes of pollination contribute significantly to our ecosystem. During our session, you’ll uncover their nesting secrets, observe their foraging prowess, and gain practical knowledge on fostering bee-friendly environments.
  • Annual Plant Sale – April 27, 2024 – Pybus Public Market, Wenatchee, WA
  • Annual Tomato Tasting Gala – August 17, 2024 – at the Continuing Education Garden, Western at Springwater, Wenatchee, WA.
  • NCW District Fair, Waterville, WA – August 22-25, 2024
  • Chelan County Fair, Cashmere, WA – September 5-8, 2024 – Bring your flowers and veggies to the fair!  Visit the Boswell building to see what your neighbors are growing. We will be there to answer questions.

Master Gardener Speakers

Master Gardeners are available to speak on select topics at your  organization’s meetings.  Examples of possible topics are: naturalized landscapes, general gardening, specialty gardening, fire-resistant landscapes, trees and shrubs, soil and fertility, house plants, and composting.

Master Gardeners may not accept payment for speaking engagements. They may accept reimbursement for mileage and materials.  Honorariums may be donated to the WSU Chelan County Master Gardener program and are very much appreciated.
