SUMMARY:Digging Deeper Education Series - Gardening for Newcomers to the North Olympic Peninsula 8-20-22
DESCRIPTION:Margery Whites will cover “Gardening for Newcomers”\nAre you (or a friend or neighbor) a transplant to the Pacific Northwest and interested in gardening? Are you still unsure about what to plant in your garden and when and where to plant it? Never fear\, help is here! \nOn Saturday\, August 20\, from 10:30 am to 12 noon\, Clallam County Master Gardener Margery Whites will empower newcomers on how to garden successfully on the North Olympic Peninsula. The presentation will take place at the Master Gardener Demonstration Garden at 2711 Woodcock Road in Sequim \nMargery will describe local growing conditions and how they impact gardening. She will help wannabe gardeners examine the topography of their property\, soil conditions\, and environmental exposures (e.g.\, wind\, sun\, rainfall) so that they can select the best location for their garden and the right plants. She will discuss some of the challenges of gardening in our area including our cool growing season\, excess rainfall in winter and spring\, drought conditions in mid-summer\, and local animal life. \nMargery is a retired professor from St. Cloud University in Minnesota. She joined Clallam County Master Gardeners in 2016 and has served on the Master Gardener Foundation of Clallam County Board of Directors. She participated in the Youth Enrichment Program and helped coordinate the successful 2022 Petals & Pathways Garden Tour with Sara Farinelli. Margery enjoys a wide range of gardening activities\, including tending her orchard\, berries\, vegetables\, shrubs\, and flowers. She grows a variety of plants in pots and raised beds and has insights as to what grows well in our area. \n“Gardening for Newcomers” is free and open to the public but limited to the first 30 people who sign up for the session. \nTo register\, go to Brown Paper Tickets at: \nhttps://brownpapertickets.com/event/5524883
