DESCRIPTION:Join Clallam County Master Gardeners (left to right) Keith Dekker\, Tom Del Hotal and Gordon Clark for a free fruit tree pruning workshop.\nFind out how to get the most benefit from your fruit trees in fall by pruning them the right way this winter. Join Clallam County Master Gardeners Keith Dekker\, Tom Del Hotal and Gordon Clark for a free fruit tree pruning workshop \nSaturday\, March 2nd 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. \nat the Woodcock Demonstration Garden – 2711 Woodcock Road in Sequim \nPruning your fruit trees the right way can make them healthier\, more productive and more accessible for you at harvest time. They will also discuss the types of trimming needed for fruit tree strength\, structure\, shape and flower production. \nKeith has focused the last 32 years of his career on the comprehensive care of residential landscapes in the Pacific Northwest. As a Clallam County Master Gardener and active volunteer with PlantAmnesty\, Keith contributes to his community by teaching classes and giving talks to promote best practices for successful\, sustainable gardening. \nTom has been a horticulturist and nurseryman since 1977. He is a Certified Arborist and was a horticulture instructor at a local college in San Diego for over 20 years. Tom owned his part-time business\, Fantasia Gardens\, (a fruit tree specialty nursery and fruit tree pruning and consulting business that specialized in home and small-scale commercial orchard design and fruit tree management services) from 1983-2020. Tom is currently a Clallam County Master Gardner. \nGordon currently owns and operates Clark Horticultural\, an organic landscape maintenance business which specializes in ornamental pruning. He successfully completed the Environmental Horticulture program at Lake Washington Institute of Technology\, has been a WSNLA Certified Professional Horticulturist for over 20 years\, an ISA Certified Arborist for 19 years\, and a Master Gardener for three years. SUMMARY:Green Thumb 2024 - Culinary Aromatics
DESCRIPTION:Culinary aromatics are vegetables\, herbs and spices—like onions\, shallots\, celery\, thyme and garlic—that when combined in the right way\, add flavor and aroma to a recipe. So why buy these when you can easily grow your own? Come and learn more about the top choices to add to your culinary garden. Join Clallam County Master Gardener Pam Pace for the Green Thumb Education Series presentation\, “A Cook’s Garden: What\, Why and How to Grow Culinary Aromatics” and find out what to grow to spice up your life \nThe 2024 Green Thumb Education Series presentation “Culinary Aromatics” will be held in person on Thursday\, March 14th from noon – 1:00 p.m. at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church\, 510 E Park Ave\, in Port Angeles and will be broadcast live via Zoom. \nFind a direct link to the live presentation here. \nOr join by phone: 253-215-8782 \nMeeting ID: 936 2989 8830 \nPasscode: 676224 \nSignature dishes from cuisines around the world use aromatics to create incredible depth of flavor and the herbs and vegetables they use are not difficult to grow in our maritime climate. “Growing culinary aromatics in the North Olympic Peninsula is not only easy\, but it’s one of the simplest\, most economic ways to grow garden-to-table produce throughout the year while taking your culinary skills to the next level\,” Pam said. \nPam was a Master Gardener in Kootenai County\, Idaho and more recently became a Clallam County Master Gardener in 2023. During her lifelong gardening journey\, she has grown vegetables\, herbs\, fruits and flowers in five different planting zones. She is thrilled to be gardening in the North Olympic Peninsula with all the challenges and joys it has to offer. Pam spent her early adult years working in the culinary field and throughout the years has evolved into an adventurous home cook. She combines her love and knowledge of cooking and gardening for this Green Thumb presentation. \nThroughout the growing season you will find Pam at the Woodcock Demonstration Garden every Thursday morning where she oversees the Culinary Garden. When she is not at the Demo Garden\, you will find her at her home garden\, planting and harvesting or in her kitchen\, cooking and preserving. \n\nThe Green Thumb Education Series\, sponsored by the Washington State University Clallam County Master Gardeners\, is held on the second and fourth Thursday of each month through October. In November\, December\, and January\, one lecture is offered. Scheduled presentations are subject to change.
