WSU Clallam County Extension&#8217;s Farm to Community Program provides buyer-farmer matchmaking and food brokerage services, otherwise known as Value Chain Coordination, to make buying local the easy choice. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wsu-row wsu-row--halves\" >\r\n    \n<div class=\"wsu-column\"  style=\"\">\r\n\t\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is Value Chain Coordination?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Value Chain coordination is a market-based approach that develops local and regional food systems by making connections among businesses along the food supply chain, resulting in improved community outcomes and increased economic opportunity for food businesses.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n<div class=\"wsu-column\"  style=\"\">\r\n\t\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.agclassroom.org\/media\/uploads\/LP838\/Food-Supply-Chain.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n<\/div>\r\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Value Chain Coordination on the North Olympic Peninsula <\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wsu-row wsu-row--quarters\" >\r\n    \n<div class=\"wsu-column  wsu-border--color-crimson wsu-color-background--gray-5\"  style=\"\">\r\n\t\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>In 2025, the WSU Extension Farm to Community Program worked with<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">23 Farms<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>from Clallam and Jefferson Counties&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n<div class=\"wsu-column  wsu-border--color-crimson wsu-color-background--gray-5\"  style=\"\">\r\n\t\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>To supply fresh, hyper-local food to <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">21 Sites<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>including Schools, Food Banks, Food Pantries and Meal Programs.<\/em><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n<div class=\"wsu-column  wsu-color-background--gray-5 wsu-border--color-crimson\"  style=\"\">\r\n\t\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>These new relationships resulted in<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">$174,900<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>in purchases of locally grown food, by local institutions.<\/em><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n<div class=\"wsu-column  wsu-color-background--gray-5 wsu-border--color-crimson\"  style=\"\">\r\n\t\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Thanks to our program,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">18 hyper-local produce and protein items<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>were featured in school breakfasts and lunches throughout the year.<\/em><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images class=\"wp-block-heading\">What does Value Chain Coordination look like?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Farm to Community Program coordinator Sallie Constant meets with chefs, food services directors, food buyers and program managers at food pantries, meal programs and school districts to understand their goals for sourcing fresh and local food.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once buyers are ready to order local, Sallie reaches out to one or several regional farms whose supply will meet the demand of the buyer, and places orders on behalf of the buyer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sallie coordinates invoicing, accounts payable, aggregation and delivery by the farm directly to the customer, or by a third party.
