Water, nutrients and healthy roots are essential to get the highest quality fruit and most productivity from your orchard trees. And a better understanding of the biological, physical and chemical characteristics of soil can help you make the most of these essential functions in orchards.

Join Clallam County Master Gardener Paul Kolesnikoff:

Thursday, November 10th from noon – 1:00 p.m.

for the Green Thumb Garden Tips Zoom presentation

“An Orchard Floor Experiment”

and discover what you can do to optimize your orchard’s soil potential.

In addition to the basics of the soil ecosystem, Paul will cover various methods for soil treatment in an orchard. He will also look at some methods that have been used locally, their results and plans for future improvements. “Gardeners will improve their understanding of the soil around their fruit trees and how they can improve it,” Paul said.

Paul’s love of gardening began early at age eight when he begged his parents to let him plant a garden. “Every day, my eager child eyes watched for the first signs of life. When I first saw beans poking through, I ran to tell my Mom, but I was so excited that my legs wouldn’t work, and I fell down repeatedly,” Paul remembers. His green-thumb life followed him across the country with gardening stints in New England, New Jersey, the Colorado mountains and then finally to Port Angeles, Washington. When not gardening, Paul enjoys biking, hiking, and sailing. He is a graduate of WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners class of 2019.

Find a direct link to the presentation here.

Or join by phone: 253-215-8782

Meeting ID: 920 0799 1742

Passcode: 709395

The “Green Thumbs Garden Tips” education series, sponsored by the WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners, is held on the second and fourth Thursday of each month through October.
