SUMMARY:Well and Septic System Maintenance Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Get Septic Certified and Save Money \nClark County\, WA –   Do you have a gravity-fed septic system? Did you know Clark County requires you to have your gravity-fed septic system inspected every 3 years? Coming up February 24th\, you can join an online webinar that will allow you to inspect the system yourself instead of hiring a professional to do it for you. The workshop is taught by Clark County Public Health and will teach participants how to inspect their septic systems and safely maintain their well water. Completing the workshop and a short exam will certify participants to self-inspect their own septic system every other time. \nHaving your septic system inspected by a professional\, costs around $100. Getting certified in our class is only $15\, saving homeowners money.  “Getting certified is also a good long-term investment and participants will learn how to spot problems faster so they can have them fixed rather than looking at a costly system replacement”\, says Terry Koper\, Program Coordinator. \nThe Small Acreage Program\, co-sponsored by Washington State University Clark County Extension and Clark County Public Works Clean Water\, will provide information\, handouts\, and answer landowners’ questions at the workshop. \n“Well & Septic System Maintenance and Septic Self -Inspection Certification” \nThursday\, February 24\, 2022 \n6:00 PM to 8:00 PM \nOnline Zoom Webinar \nRegistration is $15+fees per person and payments will be mailed in.   To register and find more details visit https://ws022422.eventbrite.com/ or email terry.koper@wsu.edu or call 564-397-5729. \nWSU Extension programs and employment are available to all without discrimination. Persons requiring special accommodations should call WSU Clark County Extension at (564) 397-5729 at least two weeks prior to the event.

SUMMARY:Ag Entrepreneurship and Business Planning
DESCRIPTION:Growing Profitable Farms\nOnline farm business planning course starts Jan 11!\nFarming can be a good economic opportunity as well as a great lifestyle choice. However\, success requires that farming be viewed as an enterprise that must sustain itself and the farm family for the long term. Beginning farmers must look at their farm like any new business venture\, while existing operations considering diversification or expansion must evaluate how changes can affect land\, labor\, capital\, and family resources.\nWSU Snohomish County Extension and WSU Clark County Extension\, in partnership with Snohomish Conservation District\, will offer Cultivating Success: Agricultural Entrepreneurship to help new and current farmers gain skills in business planning\, risk management\, and direct marketing. The entire course will be offered online using the Zoom platform.\nThe course runs Tuesday evenings January 11\, 2022 through March 29\, 2022\, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm\, a total of twelve weeks.\nThe curriculum features a full line-up of speakers including business professionals\, marketing specialists\, and successful farm owners with a special emphasis on the financial\, risk\, and legal issues unique to farm-based businesses. During the course\, participants are guided in developing a business plan they can use to help finance and grow a new enterprise or expand an existing farm-based business.\nClass size is limited and always fills quickly. Pre-paid registration is required. Cost for the twelve-week course is $200. To register\, visit Snohomish.WSU.edu/AgEnt.\nComments from graduates include\, “The unique opportunity to hear from fellow successful farmers and business mentors is one of a kind.” “Thank you for saving me from making a $100\,000 mistake!” and “The opportunity to evaluate my enterprise and make informed decisions is invaluable\, after all the best place to make mistakes is on paper.”\nMuch of the strength of the Cultivating Success program lies with the network of speakers including farmers\, business and marketing professionals\, organizations\, and others that provide farmer students with the expertise\, real-world examples\, and resources necessary to develop a successful farm enterprise.\nFacilitators for the course include Bobbi Lindemulder\, cattle rancher and District Operations Program Manager for the Snohomish Conservation District; Kate Ryan\, grower and Agriculture Program Coordinator for WSU Snohomish County Extension; and Terry Koper\, Small Acreage Program Coordinator for WSU Clark County Extension. Course sponsors include Snohomish Conservation District and Snohomish County Farm Bureau.\nFor more information on the course\, contact Kate Ryan\, (425) 357-6024\, kate.ryan@wsu.edu or Terry Koper\, (564) 397-5729\, terry.koper@wsu.edu.\nExtension programs and policies are consistent with federal and state laws and regulations on nondiscrimination regarding race\, color\, gender\, national origin\, religion\, age\, disability\, and sexual orientation. Evidence of non-compliance may be reported through your local Extension Office. Reasonable accommodations will be made for persons with disabilities and special needs who contact Karie Christensen at 6705 Puget Park Dr. Snohomish\, WA (425) 357-6039 christensen4@wsu.edu at least two weeks prior to the event.\nSelling direct to consumers at a farmers market can be one component of a sustainable farm business plan.
