SUMMARY:Well and Septic System Maintenance Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Get Septic Certified and Save Money \n\n\n\nClark County\, WA – Do you have a gravity-fed septic system? Did you know Clark County requires you to have your gravity-fed septic system inspected every 3 years? Coming up December 10th\, 2020 you can join an online webinar that will allow you to inspect the system yourself instead of hiring a professional to do it for you. The workshop is taught by Clark County Public Health and will teach participants how to inspect their gravity-fed septic systems and safely maintain their well water. Completing the workshop and a short exam will certify participants in a one-time inspection of their septic system. \nHaving your septic system inspected by a professional\, costs around $100. Getting certified in our class is only $15\, saving homeowners money.  “Getting certified is also a good long-term investment and participants will learn how to spot problems faster so they can have them fixed rather than looking at a costly system replacement\, \, says Teresa Koper\, Program Coordinator” \nThe Small Acreage Program\, co-sponsored by Washington State University Clark County Extension and Clark County Public Works Clean Water\, will provide information\, handouts\, and answer landowners’ questions at the workshop. \n “Well & Septic Inspection Certification and Maintenance” \nThursday\, December 10th\, 2020 \n6:00 to 8:00 PM \nOnline Webinar \nRegistration is $15 per person and class size is limited.   To register and find more details visit https://ws12102020.bpt.me or email teresa.koper@wsu.edu or call 564-397-5729. \n  \nWSU Extension programs and employment are available to all without discrimination. SUMMARY:Prediabetes Risk Screening
DESCRIPTION:NEWS RELEASE \nFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE \nMarch 30\, 2021 \nContact: Zena Edwards \nPreventT2 Diabetes Prevention Program \nWSU Extension Clark County \n(564) 397-5700     zena_edwards@wsu.edu \nWashington State University Extension To Provide Prediabetes Risk Screening \nVancouver\, WA: Washington State University Extension Clark County is working to meet the Healthy People 2030 goal of reducing the proportion of adults who don’t know they have prediabetes. \n“1 in 3 adults have prediabetes. More than 8 in 10 don’t even know they have it\,” said Zena Edwards\, Associate Professor and manager of the WSU Extension Clark County PreventT2 Diabetes Prevention Program. “Without taking action\, many people with prediabetes could develop type 2 diabetes within 5 years.” \nPeople with prediabetes — higher-than-normal blood glucose (sugar) levels — are 5 to 15 times more likely to develop type 2 diabetes than those with normal blood glucose levels. About 34.2 million Americans have diabetes. Over 88 million have prediabetes. \nThe good news is that adults with prediabetes can learn to make healthy changes that can cut their risk of type 2 diabetes in half. “Small changes can add up to a big difference\,” added Edwards. “But taking action to find out your risk score and blood glucose numbers is the first step.” \nOne-on-one in person or virtual consultations for helping individuals determine risk for prediabetes are available on Monday\, April 12th from 3pm to 7pm and Thursday\, April 15th from 10am to 2pm.\nDuring the 20-minute appointment\, a WSU Extension PreventT2 Lifestyle Coach will provide a prediabetes risk score and suggested actions for preventing or delaying type 2 diabetes. \nRegistration is required for the prediabetes risk screening. Individuals can sign up on SignUp Genius. \nAppointments are available via Zoom or in-person at the WSU Extension Clark County. For in-person appointments\, masks will be required to be worn at all times. Hands and frequently touches surfaces will be sanitized between appointments and six feet of physical distance will be maintained. \nPeople who already know they have prediabetes or women who have had a previous clinical diagnosis of gestational diabetes can sign up for WSU Extension’s CDC Recognized PreventT2 program on the program webpage. Classes start April 14th and April 17th.  Informational “Zero Sessions” are being held April 7th 6-7pm and April 10th 10-11am.
