Did you know Clark County requires you to have your conventional gravity-fed septic system inspected every 3 years? Attending this Well and Septic Workshop will allow you to inspect the system yourself every-other time\, instead of hiring a professional to do it for you. This can save you money. Having your septic system inspected by a professional often costs more than $100. You can save money by getting certified to self-inspect your system in our class which costs $18.00\, saving homeowners money. Completing the workshop and a short exam will certify participants to self-inspect their own septic system every–other-time.  \nThe workshop is taught by Clark County Public Health and will teach participants how to maintain and inspect their septic systems and safely maintain their well water. “Getting self-inspection certified is also a good long-term investment and participants will learn how to spot problems faster so they can have them fixed rather than looking at a costly system replacement”\, says Terry Koper\, Small Acreage Program Coordinator.  \nThis workshop is hosted by the Small Acreage Program of Washington State University Clark County Extension with support from Clark County Public Works Clean Water. DESCRIPTION:Tour Local Farms at the 24th Annual Harvest Celebration\nSaturday\, September 21st\, 2022  \n10:00am – 3:00pm\nFREE in-person Event\nMore info:\n \nhttps://extension.wsu.edu/clark/2024-harvest-celebration/  \nClark County\, WA –– Several farms will be open to the public on Saturday\, September 21st to show the bounty of local agriculture and give Clark County residents an opportunity to tour and meet their area farmers.  With nearly two thousand farms throughout Clark County providing fresh produce and meats\, this is a great opportunity to introduce the family to the farmers who make our local agriculture strong.  \nSome of the farms that are part of this celebration are Get To Gather Farm\, Good Year Farms\, Serendipity Alpaca Ranch\, Gather and Feast Farm\, and Gifts of the Planet Farm.   \nFarms will offer a variety of fun-filled events such as animal viewing\, self-guided tours\, U-pick vegetables and flowers\, craft-making\, veggie and salsa tasting\, and photo ops with alpacas.  Participants will be able to meet their local farmers; purchase fresh produce\, U-pick\, and other farm products; see alpacas\, chickens\, Scottish Highland Cows\, chickens and other livestock; and tour vegetable fields and flower gardens.    \nThis year’s Harvest Celebration will also feature four local farms that have been recognized by WSU Clark County Extension for showing a commitment to stewardship.  Get to Gather Farm\, Serendipity Alpaca Ranch\, Gather and Feast Farm\, and Gifts of the Planet Farm have been awarded a Doing Our Part for Clean Water sign\, for implementing practices that protect clean water and natural resources.    \nTerry Koper\, Small Acreage Program Coordinator\, says\, “These farms demonstrate stewardship in Clark County and they’re an excellent place to learn about sustainable farming and land stewardship practices. DESCRIPTION:Join the Small Acreage Program of WSU Clark County Extension for a workshop at the 78th St. Heritage Farm \, presented by farmer\, Michelle Week\, of Good Rain Farm. Join us for a practical\, hands-on workshop on waterwise practices and water quality management for rural living. Learn how to use water efficiently\, improve water retention\, enhance soil health through sustainable farming\, gardening\, and livestock management techniques. We’ll explore dry farming methods\, climate-adapted crops\, erosion control\, and cover cropping to optimize water use while building resilient ecosystems. Discover effective strategies for managing biohazards from waste\, preventing contamination\, and safeguarding your water sources. Leave with a personalized action plan to conserve water\, improve soil quality\, and ensure a more sustainable future for your land. \nThis workshop will be a great chance for folks to create a plan for dealing with water uncertainties and extreme weather. Did you know Clark County requires you to have your conventional gravity-fed septic system inspected every 3 years? Attending this Well and Septic Workshop will allow you to inspect the system yourself every-other time\, instead of hiring a professional to do it for you. This can save you money. Having your septic system inspected by a professional often costs more than $100. You can save money by getting certified to self-inspect your system in our class which costs $18\, saving homeowners money. DESCRIPTION:WSU Extension Hosts – Small Acreage Expo    \nSaturday\, May 17th\, 2025 – 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM \n78th St. Heritage Farm\, 1919 NE 78th Street\, Vancouver\, WA 98665  \nClark County\, WA –    WSU Clark County Extension – Small Acreage Program invites the community to the Small Acreage Expo on Saturday\, May 17th at the 78th Street Heritage Farm\, 1919 E 78th St. Vancouver\, WA 98665. \nThis year’s Small Acreage Expo offers a variety of topics including workshops on wildfire preparedness\, rainwater harvesting\, mud and manure management\, PNW traditional first foods\, grazing field demonstration\, septic system maintenance and financial\, protecting soil and water\, no-till drill seeding demonstration\, meadowscaping\, and more. Throughout the day\, participants can peruse educational booths to learn more about local organizations and agencies serving the small acreage community. \nAccording to Terry Koper\, Small Acreage Program Coordinator\, “Each year our small acreage community comes together at the Expo to meet one another and learn valuable tips about land and water stewardship. It’s a great opportunity to discover local resources and learn new practices to improve your land\, which can save people money and help protect the land and water we depend upon.” \nEarly bird registration by May 3rd is $20 and includes lunch\, or $12 without lunch. Then through noon May 16th registration is $25 (lunch included)/$15 (no lunch). Walk-ins are $25 (lunch not included). Scholarships are available.
