Note from Beth: This is as close as I can come to emulating what the vertical layout from the OSU blog looks like using WSU’s system. Could be Jake in IT has suggestions or can supply a different widget.

It is frustrating that I can see in other WSU blogs different layout styles that I can’t find tools for in our collection. Grrrr…

After training, volunteers may monitor as few or as many times as they like, visiting the same or a new spot each time. Note from Beth: I’m trying to get this to look like the listings here: https://news.cahnrs.wsu.edu/

This seems pretty much the same.

But I can’t figure out how to get an article to open up and still show the blog menu items. On the CAHNRS blog, there is a ‘blog’ menu item on the left main menu, but from what I understand, Erika doesn’t want the blog to be listed there as it is not a major page in our website architecture. So I’ve got a question in to the IT folks about it.

Beth’s Notes:

More options for masthead below — Below

I’m only using the yellow as an example. Trying options to make the page more visually compelling. The logo is nice, let’s see if we can cause it to occupy the space in some different and compelling way. Could be you won’t like any of this, but it is how the creative process works. 🙂

And note, if we use any color as a background, it likely would force us to alter the colors (shades) of the tree graphic, and the text. If such color alteration is unacceptable in any form, then we should stop looking at the first couple of these samples below, and move to the ones highlighting the text with a color box instead.

The first one is screen split in half.

Beth’s Note:

Below is same as above, but screen elements split like a normal content and sidebar are… and that just may look nice given that is the format of how the blurbs of the articles and the ‘blog tools’ will be formatted below the masthead.

I think this one is good!

I’ve also shown the articles list below the masthead. That seems pretty good. It seems to be the only option available to us at this point. I still can’t figure out how to display a single article while retaining the blog sidebar elements. Question for IT.
