{"id":1290,"date":"2014-04-18T10:45:12","date_gmt":"2014-04-18T17:45:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/clark\/?page_id=1290"},"modified":"2020-05-31T14:11:23","modified_gmt":"2020-05-31T21:11:23","slug":"naturalresources","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/clark\/naturalresources\/","title":{"rendered":"Natural Resources"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"cpb-row  pad-bottom gutter single\" style=\"\"><div class=\"cpb-row-inner\"><div class=\"cpb-column  one\" style=\"\"><div class=\"cpb-textblock cpb-item \"><p><\/p>\n<h2>Small Acreage Program<\/h2>\n<p>The <a title=\"Small Acreage Program\" href=\"http:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/clark\/naturalresources\/smallacreageprogram\/\">Small Acreage program<\/a> provides outreach to residents on how to manage issues small acreage landowners confront, such as mud and manure management, fencing and pasture management, wells and septic system maintenance, and other management topics unique to small acreage properties.<\/p>\n<p>The Small Acreage program helps residents reduce pollution entering storm and surface water coming from residential and agricultural properties by giving residents the knowledge and skills necessary to manage their land and animals in a way that will help keep water clean. Often, these improved management practices also save small acreage owners money.<\/p>\n<h2>Watershed Stewardship<\/h2>\n<p>We encourage Clark County residents\u00a0to practice <a title=\"Watershed Stewardship\" href=\"http:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/clark\/naturalresources\/stewards\/\">Watershed Stewardship<\/a>\u00a0by increasing their understanding and encouraging practices that lead to healthy watersheds. Residents learn about watersheds and how individuals affect those watersheds, water quality, and habitat improvement.<\/p>\n<h2>Forestry<\/h2>\n<p>WSU Extension Forestry serves Clark residents to answer <a href=\"http:\/\/forestry.wsu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">forestry<\/a> related questions. Education programs include Forest Stewardship, timber sales, reforestation, wildlife and other aspects of woodland management are provided.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ruraltech.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rural Technology Initiative<\/a> (RTI) is a technology transfer program created as a partnership between the University of Washington, Washington State University, and the USDA Forest Service to provide forest managers with the best scientific knowledge and tools needed to solve today\u2019s complex forest management problems.<\/p>\n<p>You can view RTI presentations at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ruraltech.org\/video\/index.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/www.ruraltech.org\/video\/index.asp<\/a> such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ruraltech.org\/video\/topics\/alder\/index.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Changing Markets: Red Alder and Red Cedar<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ruraltech.org\/video\/topics\/fire\/index.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Forest Fire and Fuel Reduction<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ruraltech.org\/video\/topics\/riparian\/index.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Riparian Management<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ruraltech.org\/video\/topics\/wildlife\/index.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wildlife Habitat<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ruraltech.org\/gis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Learn about GIS forestry applications<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ruraltech.org\/training\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">find out about the latest RTI trainings offered<\/a> for non-industrial forest landowners, public and private forestry professionals, and educators.<\/p>\n<p>You may also visit the Washington State University publications for <a href=\"https:\/\/pubs.wsu.edu\/ListCategories.aspx?TopicID=5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">information on forestry<\/a>. The Oregon Forest Industry Directory facilitates the establishment of business connections between the broad array of interests in Oregon&#8217;s forestry sector.
