Often long-lived and large in size, trees may serve as living markers of times gone by or notable places. Clark Co MG Program\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CoVr7RgsxuU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The WSU Extension Clark County Master Gardener program maintains a list of trees of significance in unincorporated Clark County through its Heritage Tree Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Nominate a Tree<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have or know of a special tree or a grove of trees that might be considered for Heritage Tree status, please review the program criteria listed below and contact the WSU Extension Clark County Master Gardener Program at&nbsp; <a href=\"tel:564-397-5738\">564-397-5738<\/a>, or submit a <a href=\"https:\/\/wpcdn.web.wsu.edu\/wp-extension\/uploads\/sites\/2079\/2019\/11\/Heritage-Trees-FlyerNomination.pdf\">Heritage Tree Nomination form (PDF)<\/a> to <a href=\"mailto:erika.d.johnson@wsu.edu\">erika.d.johnson@wsu.edu<\/a> or in person at the Clark County Extension Office Master Gardener Program; 1919 NE 78th St., Vancouver, WA 98665.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nomination Criteria<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Heritage Tree status may be granted to a tree or a collection of trees if they meet one or more of the following criteria:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Exceptional or unusual size, form, or rarity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Significant age<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Association with a significant landmark, person, event or natural resource<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Is considered a local landmark, visually accessible to public viewing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Arrangement as a collection, such as a notable grove, avenue, or planting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nominees must:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Be in good condition as evaluated by the Heritage Tree committee. The evaluation may include input by professional tree experts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have written consent of the property owner. Consent is non-binding and participation is strictly voluntary. Participation may be revoked at any time by the property owner. There is no legal relationship governing participation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nominations are currently reviewed semi-annually:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Nomination deadlines&nbsp; &#8212; October 31 &amp; April 30<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Once a nomination is received and the nomination deadline met, a designated group of volunteers will visit the tree to determine its qualification for the program. The visit will be scheduled in advance with the property owner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A decision will be made by the committee and the property owner will be notified. The tree(s) will be added to the list and featured on the program\u2019s website.
