{"id":33,"date":"2013-10-16T11:03:48","date_gmt":"2013-10-16T18:03:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ext100.wsu.edu\/columbia\/?page_id=33"},"modified":"2025-09-18T12:59:48","modified_gmt":"2025-09-18T19:59:48","slug":"youth","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/columbia\/youth\/","title":{"rendered":"4-H Youth Development Program &#8211; Columbia County"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wsu-row wsu-row--sidebar-right\" >\r\n    \n<div class=\"wsu-column\"  style=\"\">\r\n\t\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Welcome to 4-H!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>4-H is the youth development education program of&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/cahnrs.wsu.edu\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Washington State University Extension<\/a>, which is conducted jointly by the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/nifa.usda.gov\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">U.S. Department of Agriculture<\/a>, your state land grant university (<a href=\"http:\/\/wsu.edu\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WSU<\/a>) and Columbia County. Today 4-H is everywhere\u2013in cities, suburbs, small towns, and rural communities. In the 21st century, 4-H serves a broad clientele with an expanded program using a variety of ways to \u201clearn by doing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wpcdn.web.wsu.edu\/extension\/uploads\/sites\/65\/2019\/07\/4H_Icons_Grouped.jpg\" alt=\"Head, Heart, Hands, Health\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who can join 4-H?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>4-H is open to every youth, ages 5-19, without discrimination!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are four age groups* in which you can do a wide variety of projects and activities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Cloverbuds: ages 5-7<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Junior: ages 8-10<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Intermediate: ages 11-13<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Senior: ages 14 to less than 19<em>&nbsp;<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>*Shooting sports and large animal projects require youth to be at least 8 years of age on October 1st to participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Join 4-H<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can join 4-H in a few easy steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Find a Club:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Find a club that offers leadership in a project you\u2019re interested in. Contact the extension office to find a club or start your own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Decide on a Project:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>There are numerous different project opportunities for 4-H members to participate in and with self-determined projects.
