SUMMARY:Evaluating Mason Bees Cocoons
DESCRIPTION:Join us on October 14 at 10:00 am when Billie Bevers\, Washington State University Master Gardener will present a workshop on how to evaluate mason bees cocoons for disease. During the spring and summer other bees\, diseases and parasites can invade mason bee nests.  This two hour session is a “hands on” active and fun class to help you identify what’s in your mason bee tubes and blocks. There will be cocoons you can evaluate if you don’t have your own. Information on overwintering your bees and creating containers for their long sleep will be presented.  Participants will need to bring a box cutter to cut open their straws and a paper bag to carry home your cocoons. SUMMARY:4-H Youth Summer Sewing School
DESCRIPTION:WSU 4-H Sewing Volunteers Offer Youth Summer 4-H Sewing School \nA week long 4-H summer sewing school is being offered for youth wishing to learn how to sew from Monday through Friday\, July 10th – 14th\, 2017 from 9 am to 12 noon at the Catlin Grange in Kelso. \nWashington State University 4-H Sewing and Textile Volunteers will teach youth basic sewing skills and how to use and care for a sewing machine. Participants will learn straight stitching; hand sewing; how to work with a simple pattern; and how to use basic sewing supplies\, notions and equipment. Each participant will need to provide their own sewing machine in good working order. \nThe participants are part of the county 4-H Youth Program and will be able to exhibit their items in the 4-H department at the Cowlitz County Fair\, July 26-29th. \nThe 4-H Summer Sewing School is open to all youth who have just completed third grade or older. The cost is $15.00 and includes basic sewing supplies and notions plus a resource notebook. \nA required parent orientation will be held on Monday\, June 26th in the evening at the WSU Extension office. The exact time for the orientation will be provided once the youth is registered. \nClass size is limited and will be on a first paid\, first served basis. DESCRIPTION:Cowlitz County Master Gardener Phyllis Collins will teach you how to make Hypertufa garden pots and planters.  Hypertufa is the art of making lightweight cement pots.
