Economic development\u00a0is defined as the sustained, concerted actions of policy makers and communities that promote the standard of living and\u00a0economic\u00a0health of a specific area.\u00a0Economic development\u00a0can also be referred to as the quantitative and qualitative changes in the\u00a0economy.\u00a0In other words, community and economic development are the cornerstones of building partnership and opportunities that lead to a thriving community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to working with University experts and specialists, the WSU Ferry County Extension Office has partnered with many organizations to serve the community (including but not limited to)&nbsp;Washington Department of Commerce, Tri-County Economic Development District,&nbsp;Republic Chamber of Commerce,&nbsp;Republic Visitor&#8217;s Bureau, and WSU Extension Offices in other counties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We recognize that our small businesses and small farms\/ranches are an integral part of our economy and community. The <em>New<\/em>\u00a0Washington State University Food Systems Program delivers multidisciplinary expertise across academic, research, and extension, providing specialized resources for farmers and food systems contributors. We seek to work with communities throughout the state to foster viable farm businesses, optimize sustainable natural resource stewardship, and to promote scaled processing and distribution, always in the pursuit of access to healthy food for all. If you or your business require specific training or educational resources, please <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/ferry\/contact\/\">contact our office<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Colville Confederated Tribes and Ferry County Broadband Action Team (BAT) is focused on working with a variety of community stakeholders to improve the broadband landscape for everyone in Ferry County including our tribal partners.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As a board member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/wfea.org\/\">Washington Festivals &amp; Events Associations<\/a> (WFEA), we support local event and festival planners with advice and information on best-practices, especially as it involves agritourism operations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>International Agritourism Workshop (IAW) support Extension in promoting our small farms and ranches to educate others about farm or ranch based events or activities like farm tours, petting zoos, and farm stands, or the Friday Market in Republic and more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"216\" height=\"160\" src=\"https:\/\/wpcdn.web.wsu.edu\/extension\/uploads\/sites\/74\/2014\/09\/Agritourism.jpg\" alt=\"People walking and shopping at an outdoor fall market with pumpkins and flowers on display.\" class=\"wp-image-3933\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\">Agritourism<\/span>&nbsp;<\/strong>involves any&nbsp;agriculturally&nbsp;based operation or activity that brings visitors to a farm&nbsp;or&nbsp;ranch. Agritourism includes but is not limited to farm tours, roadside stands, certified farmer\u2019s markets, corn mazes, outdoor events such as fishing or hunting on a farm,&nbsp; festivals, events, and farm stays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The USDA states, &#8220;People have become more interested in how their food is produced.
