Each year, WSU Extension Grant-Adams Master Gardeners put in considerable time to organize a large plant sale. The goal is to give the public a good selection of high-quality plants at reasonable prices. The plant sale is managed by the Master Gardener Foundation of Grant-Adams Counties and is the most significant fundraiser of the year. Proceeds are plowed back to support all the activities that the Master Gardeners are involved with since the program is not otherwise funded. The annual plant sale takes place at the first Moses Lake Farmers Market in May though other mini sales are held during the year including the Moses Lake Winter Market, Moses Lake Spring Festival, the annual gardening symposium, and other venues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The annual plant is a major undertaking by our volunteers. This activity is one of our foundation\u2019s key funding activities. It takes five to seven months of effort to produce a plant sale that meets our standards and yours. Read on for a quick overview of the effort involved.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n

Time and place<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The annual event is usually held at the first Moses Lake Farmers Market on a Saturday in May. Hours are 8 to 1 pm in McCosh Park next to the aquatic center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our plant sale is the product of many volunteer master gardeners working together for several months in order to host a \u201cPop Up Nursery\u201d on one Saturday a year. The process begins in the fall with master gardeners starting or dividing up native and drought tolerant plants and perennials at home or at a large greenhouse in Quincy used by the Master Gardeners. Shortly after the new year, our volunteers are back at it starting vegetables from seed and timing our plantings so they will be the right size when the time for planting comes. Organization is the key to success and the Master Gardeners do it all during the active growing season and the day of the event.
A wide range of native and drought tolerant plants, vegetables and flowers are grown which varies each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
