{"id":495,"date":"2014-09-19T09:46:13","date_gmt":"2014-09-19T16:46:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ext100.wsu.edu\/graysharbor\/?page_id=495"},"modified":"2026-10-01T19:32:20","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T02:32:20","slug":"become-a-4-h-volunteer","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/graysharbor\/4-h\/become-a-4-h-volunteer\/","title":{"rendered":"Become a 4-H Volunteer"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wsu-row wsu-row--sidebar-right\" >\r\n    \n<div class=\"wsu-column\"  style=\"\">\r\n\t\n\n<p>Grays&nbsp;Harbor&nbsp;County 4-H provides many opportunities for adult volunteers to act as thoughtful, fun mentors to our youth!&nbsp; Volunteering in the&nbsp;Grays Harbor&nbsp;County 4-H Youth Development Program is a privilege and requires the completion of a few simple steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Volunteer Interest Form<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Unsure how to get started volunteering with 4-H?&nbsp; Fill out the online <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/graysharbor\/4-h-interest-form-grays-harbor-county-mason-county\/\">4-H Interest Form<\/a> or complete this <a href=\"https:\/\/s3.wp.wsu.edu\/uploads\/sites\/2064\/2024\/10\/3.-Volunteer-Interest-Form.pdf\">Volunteer Interest Form (pdf)<\/a> and return to your club leader, or 4-H Program Coordinator to discuss volunteer opportunities that might be a good fit for your areas of interest, experience and time commitment.&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/graysharbor\/2024\/09\/4-h-council-seeks-committee-volunteers\/\">View the Grays Harbor 4-H Council has information about potential volunteers roles that are available<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What do 4-H Volunteers Actually Do?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>A little bit of everything!  They help kids choose and learn about projects. They plan meetings and activities. They answer questions, organize events, encourage kids to try something new and sometimes simply listen.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You don&#8217;t have to be an expert. You don&#8217;t have to know everything about 4-H.  You just have to be willing to show up, help out and give kids a place to learn and grow.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Could you be a 4-H volunteer? \ud83c\udf40  There are lots of ways to get involved, and you might be surprised by how much you get out of it, too.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A big thank you to the Grays Harbor 4-H Council&nbsp;for supporting the adults who make so many 4-H experiences possible!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Steps to Volunteer with 4-H<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Please find the document with steps for <a href=\"https:\/\/wpcdn.web.wsu.edu\/extension\/uploads\/sites\/77\/2024\/10\/2024-2025_Volunteer_Welcome_Letter.pdf\">new and returning volunteers (pdf)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Returning volunteers need to enroll annually and pass a background check every 3 years.<br>New volunteers will complete all of the following steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/graysharbor\/4-h-volunteer-application-grays-harbor-county-mason-county\/\">Volunteer Application<\/a> online or return a hard copy of the <a href=\"https:\/\/wpcdn.web.wsu.edu\/extension\/uploads\/sites\/77\/2024\/09\/2024-2025_Volunteer_Application_Packet_GH-1.pdf\">Grays Harbor County 4-H Volunteer Application Packet (pdf)<\/a>&nbsp;to the 4-H Program Coordinator<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> Complete the required volunteer education\n<ul>\n<li>Visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/campus.extension.org\/course\/index.php?category1d=159\">eXtension website<\/a> to login and view the \u201c<strong>WSU Put the Child First<\/strong>\u201d video<br> (the Grays Harbor enrollment key is GRAYSHARBOR4H)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/campus.extension.org\/course\/index.php?category1d=159\">eXtension website<\/a> to login and complete &#8220;<strong>4-H Volunteer Orientation Modules<\/strong>&#8220;<br>\n(the Grays Harbor enrollment key is GRAYSHARBOR)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/campus.extension.org\/course\/index.php?category1d=159\">eXtension website<\/a> to login and complete &#8220;<strong>WSU EP 14 Protection and Safety of Minors Training<\/strong>&#8220;<br> (the Grays Harbor enrollment key is EP14GRHA4H)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enroll in 4-H Online as a volunteer. You must <a href=\"https:\/\/v2.4honline.com\/\">complete all required enrollment information online<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/graysharbor\/4-h\/forms\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/graysharbor\/4-h\/forms\/\">Step by step instructions<\/a> are available.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete a background screening from &#8220;Sterling Volunteers&#8221; after receiving a link.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Meet with us!&nbsp; Once you have completed these steps, we will work together to schedule an interactive, fun volunteer orientation workshop and if you are starting a new club we will provide a 4-H Club Kit. <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.office.com\/r\/rgUttfPEuJ\">RSVP<\/a> or contact Tracie.
