The organic food and beverage market is one of the fastest growing segments of agriculture, with retail sales generally increasing between 10 and 20 percent annually since 1997. The growing demand for organic products has created the need for employees who understand the unique production, processing, and marketing approaches used in organic agriculture. This revolutionary new major is the first of its kind to be offered in the United States. Students in this major take a diverse array of courses in the agricultural, economic, and social sciences, as well as a number of courses focused on organic production practices.
