Recycling in Island County:
Recycling is an important activity that leads to many environmental benefits. Island County encourages and rewards recycling by not charging a disposal fee for most recyclables. The disposal options available to you for recyclables depend on where you live.
Areas with curbside recycling availabe
Where available, curbside recycling makes disposal easy as it’s collected in the same manner as curbside garbage. For details on what is recyclable and other specific questions, please contact the service provider for your area.
City of Oak Harbor – Provider: Oak Harbor Public Works
Curbside recycling is available to all single-family homes as part of their garbage pick-up service.
Town of Coupeville – Provider: Island Disposal, Inc.
Curbside recycling is available to all single-family homes as part of their garbage pick-up service.
Naval Air Station – Provider: Island Disposal, Inc.
Curbside recycling is available to all residents of NAS Whidbey Private Partner Venture (PPV) housing as part of their garbage pick-up service.
Camano Island – Provider: Waste Management, Inc.
Curbside recycling is available to all single-family homes as part of their garbage pick-up service.
Self-sorting and hauling of recyclables:
Self-haul recycling is available to all residents of Island County. Unlike curbside recycling, you typically must sort items by material when you drop them off (except at the Camano Island facility). However, these drop-off facilities tend to accept a wider variety of items for recycling than curbside service (such as electronics) and have attendants that can help answer your questions. Please consult the specific rules for the drop-off facility before going.
