Learn, Grow, Eat, and Go! <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hey kids in grades 3-5! Join us for our free, weekly Junior Master Gardener Class! Learn, Grow, Eat & GO!<\/strong> (LGEG) is the research & evidence-based curriculum project of the Junior Master Gardener\u00ae Program that combines academic achievement, gardening, nutrient-dense food experiences, physical activity, & school & family engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n

Created by teachers, this linear set of hands-on, proven lessons, will help students better understand plants and how plants provide for people\u2019s needs. Taught virtually by the Junior Master Gardener team, the 10-week learning series will lead students through our hands-on lessons by guiding them through the steps of establishing a thriving garden that is easy to create and maintain, no matter if students are at school or at home. The easy-to-follow curriculum<\/a> features opportunities for your child to participate in fresh vegetable tastings\/evaluations, simple recipe demos, and physical activities that research shows can improve on-task behavior and academic performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TIME COMMITMENT:<\/strong> This is a 10-week, virtually presented learning series, offered free to children in Island County. Classes will be on Wednesday afternoons from 3:00 – 4:00PM, beginning April 14 and continuing though June 16.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

GRADE LEVEL:<\/strong> Learn, Grow, Eat & GO! is geared specifically for students in grades 3-5. LGEG is easily adaptable and has been successfully implemented in middle school classrooms as well as with students in younger grade levels. Because the class is done virtually and activities will be performed at home, it is highly recommended that a parent or other adult participate with the child.<\/p>\n\n\n

CLASS MATERIALS:<\/strong> Limited course materials will be provided for the first 50 participants, including a class journal and some garden seeds to plant. Other craft supplies such as tape, scissors, paper etc. are not supplied, but are typically available in most household or at local craft stores. A list of supplies needed will be provided before classes begin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As this new program is rolled out in Island County, youth will have the opportunity to participate either as an individual or as a member of a 4-H Youth Development Club. More information about this opportunity will be shared in class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
