WSU Jefferson County Extension<\/strong> provides a multitude of resources for home gardeners. Unlike much of the gardening information available to the public, this information is research-based and focused on environmentally-friendly gardening practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who are Master Gardeners?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Master Gardeners<\/strong> are volunteer community educators that are specialists in cultivating plants, people, and communities since 1973. These volunteers are avid gardeners who undergo our intensive training program to become experts about gardening in Jefferson County. They help gardeners find current safe solutions to local gardening problems; make their communities more environmentally and economically viable by teaching people to protect natural resources; and support community food systems through education and garden support.  Master Gardeners have access to the experts and research resources at Washington State University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jefferson County Master Gardeners are a diverse group of people with a wide variety of knowledge, skills and interests. Our volunteer base is currently over 70 individuals who live across East Jefferson County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mission:<\/strong> The purpose of the WSU Extension Master Gardener Program is to train volunteers to be effective community educators in gardening and environmental stewardship. Master Gardeners provide information generated from research at WSU and other university systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\r\n\t\t\tOffered in the spring and fall, participants will learn what vegetables grow on the Olympic Peninsula, winter garden planning, food preservation, soil management, best cultivation practices, and more.\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/article>\n\n

\r\n\t\t\tA rain garden is a beautiful and effective way to clean polluted stormwater runoff, acting like a miniature native forest by collecting, absorbing, and filtering stormwater runoff from roof tops, driveways, patios, and other areas that don\u2019t allow water to soak in.\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/article>\n\n

\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSeed Library\t\t\t<\/a>\t\t<\/h2>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\tBorrow, Grow, Return! Each spring, the library will feature locally developed varieties that you can \u201cborrow\u201c. We\u2019ll provided you with enough seed so that you can grow plants to eat and for seed saving. We ask that you select several of your most vigorous, fast maturing and delicious plants to go \u201cto seed\u201d. At the end of the season, return your cleaned and dried seed to the Seed Library\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/article>\n\n
