Highline Elementary School librarians and Food $ense have partnered to spread the word about healthy eating during March. As part of National Nutrition Month, the librarians are teaching literacy nutrition lessons to their kindergarten, first and second grade students during library time. Each of the 5 lessons covers a MyPlate food group and the sharing of a food themed children’s book adapted into a story board or other interactive format. This provides an impactful message for all students, but especially English language learners. Other parts of the lesson were designed with Common Core State Standards in mind.

Teaching children about healthy eating is always important but especially at this young age when health habits are being formed. Great job librarians for helping to keep our students healthy!
