Beach Naturalists is for people who want to discover and explore shorelines and sea life. Nearly surrounded by water, the Kitsap Peninsula is an amazing place to learn about the sea stars, clams, crabs, and other cool critters, as well as seaweeds and plants that live on our beaches. We also discuss Salish Sea oceanography and shoreline living, conservation, and restoration.
In addition to the training and resources, we also provide and connect you with opportunities to volunteer in activities around Kitsap County, including acting as a naturalist for community beach explorations and children’s field trips, conducting beach profiles, sea star monitoring, and outreach at local events.
This class is open to the public, taught by local and regional experts, and covers topics such as:
- Invertebrates and seaweeds
- Birds and bugs
- Shoreline conservation
- Oceanography
- Interpretative skills
Field trip options will be offered:
Friday, April 8 from 11-1 – Silverdale Waterfront Park
Saturday, April 9 from 12-2 – Rockaway Beach, Bainbridge
Thursday, April 21 from 11-1 – North side of the Kingston Ferry Dock
