SUMMARY:Compost Heat Recovery System at Kitsap Farms
DESCRIPTION:[row][column][textblock] Join Regional Small Farms for our next Dirt Talk Farm Walk out at Kitsap Farms in Hansville\, WA. Angie Cordiano and Harold Hogan will share with local farmers their new compost heat recovery system that they built to heat their fish house\, eliminating their need to continuously run heaters. They will be sharing how other farmers can build their own radiant heat systems in any greenhouse setting to extend their growing season and save on energy costs.     \n  \nDiscussion will be focused on:  \n\nTour of the Kitsap Farms Aquaponics system and set up \nOverview of their newly built Compost Heat Recovery System and step by step walk through of how it was built and benefits to the farm \nTips & tricks – things they learned from the process \nSharing resources and funding they received \nDiscussion from farmers in attendance\n\n\nIn addition\, they will provide their project plans to farmers who may be interested in building their own radiant heat system for greenhouse settings.    \n  \nRegistration Details  \nDate: March 14th\, 2024\, from 2pm – 4pm (in-person event!)  \nLocation:  – Address will be provided to registered attendees  \nAudience: Farmers\, Homesteaders and Producers Only  \nRegistration link:  \n \nPlease only register for the farm walk if you plan to attend as there is limited space for this event. If you register and are unable to come\, we kindly ask that you inform us at least 48 hours before the event so that we may open up registration to other interested farmers.    \nIf you go to register and there are no spaces available\, please email jess.sappington@wsu.edu to be put on our cancellation list.  \n  \nMore about Kitsap Farms:  \nAngela and Harold have been residents of Kitsap County for over 10 years.  Angela grew up in New York City and works in insurance providing crop and other types of agriculture insurance.  Harold grew up on his family’s dairy farm outside of Dallas\, TX.  Together they own and operate Kitsap Farms\, an aquaponic farm in Hansville.  The vegetables consist of fancy lettuce\, herbs\, and other greens.  The fish are Blue Nile Tilapia\, fancy goldfish and one pet Koi fish!    \n  \nWSU Extension programs and employment are available to all without discrimination. In this course you will develop your own Forest Stewardship Plan\, which brings state recognition as a Stewardship Forest and may help qualifying landowners enroll in reduced property tax or conservation cost-share grant programs.  \nNorthwest WA Online Course (Whatcom\, Clallam\, Jefferson and Kitsap counties)  \nThursday evening class sessions\nThe Thursday evening class sessions will be 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. January 18 – March 14\, 2024 \nField Trip\nThere will be an in-person field trip: Date and location TBD. \nLocation\nOnline – These courses will be offered via live\, interactive webinars.
