DESCRIPTION:[row][column][textblock] Join WSU Regional Small Farms for our next Dirt Talk event series all about on-farm composting. This is a two-part series for farmers who want to learn more about building\, managing\, and making high quality compost for use on your farm. Please see details below for Part 1 which is a virtual class. Part 2 will be an in person farm walk. You can register for one or both classes through the same Brown Paper Ticket registration link or go here for full class info. \n——- \nOn-Farm Composting: Part 1 – Online Class\nDate: May 21st\, 2024\, from 6pm 7:30pm \nWhere: Online Via Zoom (you must register to get Zoom link!) \nAudience: Farmers \nThis first class will be online with Kellie Henwood\, WSU Regional Small Farms Coordinator who will be joined by Bob Gilby of Rokalu Farms. They will be delivering the following topics along with Q&A time for local farmers at the end: \n\n Introducing the compost process what is happening and why?\nCalculating C:N ratios and overview types of compost systems (windrows\, static piles\, aeration\, enclosed systems)\nManagement of composting to reduce pathogens and risk\, along with Food Safety considerations (Organic Certification\, food and produce safety requirements)\nOverview of a local on-farm compost system\nTroubleshooting common compost pile problems.\nFarmer Q&A\n\nRegistration: Please note that you must register to get the Zoom link for this class.  \nIf you want to register for both classes in this series: you must select the date of the first class on Brown Paper Ticket registration\, add to cart\, and then click “continue shopping”. Go back to the registration and select the second date of the class and add that one to the cart. Finally\, click “Check out” and you should see registrations for both dates in your cart.
