SUMMARY:Trash to Treasure: Transforming Watershed Debris into Works of Art
DESCRIPTION:[row][column][textblock] Join WSU Extension Water Stewardship for a two-part/day workshop. \nREGISTER NOW \nOn day one\, we will meet at a beautiful private beach to learn from guest speaker Staci McMahon\, NOAA Pacific Region Marine Debris Specialist. Plan to enjoy a beach walk and search the wrack line and driftwood piles for debris\, categorize our finds and discuss ways to repurpose select pieces into art. Come with questions! \nFrom there\, participants will have time to steward watershed areas on their own if they wish\, removing more trash bound for the ocean and conceptualizing art pieces. \nOn day two\, we will come back together to turn our watershed/marine trash finds into art treasures in the form of mixed media shadow box art or freeform pieces. Final pieces will be eligible for exhibition at a local marine aquarium to serve as conservation messages. No artistic ability required… just come and bring a friend! \n18 years and up. \nWorkshop session 1: Friday\, August 23\, 2024 – 10am to 1pm at Camp Indianola -10635 NE Shore Dr\, Indianola\, WA 98342. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes for beach stewardship. Bring sun protection\, walking stick\, water and snacks as needed. \nWorkshop session 2: Friday\, September 13\, 2024 –10am to 1pm at an indoor North Kitsap location TBA. More details will be provided at the first session. \nCost: $20-$25 – Early Bird Special through August 9. Scholarships available for qualifying participants. \nRegistration deadline: August 21. Space is limited! SUMMARY:2nd Annual Sweetpotato Field Day
DESCRIPTION:[row][column][textblock]Join WSU Regional Small Farms and WSU NWREC at the 2nd Annual Sweetpotato Field Day!  \nVisit the sweetpotato trial fields at the WSU Northwest Research and Extension Center in Mt. Vernon to see side by side comparison of common commercial varieties\, Washington farmer recommended varieties\, new wireworm resistant lines and unreleased breeding lines from the USDA sweetpotato program that are being assessed for western WA growing conditions. Different planting and growing techniques will be on display\, such planting slips horizontally vs. vertically\, the use of black plastic mulch vs. no mulch and growing sweetpotatoes vertically on a trellis.
