SUMMARY:Cover Crops for On-farm Water Conservation
DESCRIPTION:Cover Crops for On-farm Water Conservation and No-till Seed Drill Demonstration \nPresented by Clallam County Conservation District and WSU Extension Regional Small Farms Program. \nFree! \nFarmers who attend the event may be eligible to receive free cover crop seed for their farms from the Clallam Conservation District. \nIn agriculture\, cover crops are plants that are planted to cover the soil rather than for the purpose of being harvested. Using cover crops on your farm provides numerous benefits\, such as improving soil health\, slowing erosion\, controlling weeds and pests\, and enhancing water availability. This class will specifically focus on cover crops for soil and water conservation. Each year\, drought conditions are becoming especially hard on farmers\, who need consistent water to be able to grow their crops. In this class\, participants will learn how cover crops can be most effectively employed for the conservation of soil moisture and increasing water holding capacity. The last hour of the class will be spent on a nearby farm utilizing cover crops with a demonstration of a no-till seed drill\, a critical tool in the ever evolving climate-smart soil health practices. Participants are expected to drive to the farm on their own. Please dress for the weather and bring your own water and snacks if needed. \nDate: Thursday\, October 17th from 10am-1pm\nAddress: Crescent Board Room\, PUD #1 of Clallam County\, 104 Hooker Rd\, Sequim\, WA 98382\n*Address of nearby farm will be given after registration*\nIntended audience: farmers\, small acreage landowners/homesteaders\, crop and livestock producers. \nRegistration: Please only register if you plan to attend. Space is limited. If you cannot make the class please email Kellie Henwood at kellie.henwood@wsu.edu within 48 hours of scheduled event. \n \nThis class made possible with funding from the Washington Department of Ecology and Washington Conservation Commission’s Sustainable Farms and Fields Program. \nWSU Extension programs and employment are available to all without discrimination. Evidence of noncompliance may be reported through your local WSU Extension office. Persons with disabilities who require alternative means for communication or program information or reasonable accommodation need to contact Kellie Henwood\, kellie.henwood@wsu.edu\, WSU Extension\, 121 Oak Bay Rd\, 360-379-5610 at least one week prior to the event.

SUMMARY:Pruning Blueberries at the Lazy J Tree Farm
DESCRIPTION:[row][column][textblock] Blueberries: Pruning for Productivity by Jeanette Stehr-Green and Audreen Williams\, WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners. \nResearch has shown that when blueberry plants are not pruned or are pruned too lightly\, they fail to develop strong wood and become less productive. Blueberry growers will be able to apply what they learn soon after the presentation. With implementation of an annual pruning regimen\, the gardeners blueberry bushes will be happier and healthier and produce bigger and better berries! \nDate: February 24th\, 10:30am – 12pm \nAddress: Lazy J Tree Farm – 225 Gehrke Rd\, Port Angeles\, WA 98362\nYOU MUST REGISTER TO ATTEND! \nAudience: This workshop is applicable to Farmers\, Gardeners\, and Homesteaders \nRegistration: https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/6167880 \nSpace is limited for this event\, you must register to attend! \n***** This event is a crossover for gardeners\, farmers and homesteaders. SUMMARY:Farmer Stress Assistance and Wellness Event
DESCRIPTION:[row][column][textblock] \nFarmer Stress Assistance and Wellness Event \nMonday January 22\, 2024 \n9am-3pm at the Resort at Port Ludlow \nFree event for farmers with delicious food provided! \nPre-registration is required: https://farmerhealth.brownpapertickets.com/ \nJoin us for a day of learning and reflecting on how to reduce and manage stressors on your farm with a focus on physical\, emotional\, mental and financial health. Farming can be extremely stressful. Agriculture is known to be a dangerous occupation full of potential stressors like weather\, changing economic markets and machinery breakdowns. How can farmers care for themselves to sustain their tenure in agriculture? We will explore this query. \nJoin us for a free workshop with lunch and snacks provided in a comfortable\, relaxed setting.
