DESCRIPTION:Klickitat County 4-H Leaders’ Council Meeting \nThe volunteer leader training session will begin at 6:30 pm.  The council meeting will begin at 7pm. \nThe 30 minute training session prior to each meeting is a great opportunity for enrolled 4-H leaders to obtain the six (6) hours of leader education required for every leader each 4-H year. \nRemember\, leaders\, parents and youth who attend these meetings help determine the direction of our county program. These meetings are where the “business” of our county 4-H program is conducted. Please attend as many meetings as you can. 4-H clubs are encouraged to have a club representative regularly attend meetings.

SUMMARY:4-H Youth Horse Camp
DESCRIPTION:4-H Youth Horse Camp is open to all youth (with their horses) who are at least 8 years old before October 1\, 2016 and have not turned 19 years old before October 1\, 2016. \nThe purpose of the Horse Camp is to prepare youth for showing in their county and state 4-H fairs or just improve their horsemanship skills. Riders will have showmanship and three riding classes each day for $150. Registrations postmarked by June 23 will also receive a 2017 4-H Horse Camp T-shirt. Check-in is Sunday evening\, July 9\, from 5pm to 7pm; dinner will be served at 6pm. \nShavings are NOT included – you must provide your own. \nPLEASE NOTE—The hours of 4-H supervision will be 6am to 8pm each day–all riders must have a designated on-site responsible adult overseeing them during the day and especially at night. The main purpose behind judging contests and activities is to help teach decision-making skills. \nAt each stop\, participants will be able to judge different species and will give oral reasons on two species/classes that day\, expanding their skills and knowledge in judging. This will be a fun learning experience. Bio-security measures will also be practiced at each location\, upon arrival and at departure. \nYouth must have a responsible adult driver all day (must be a parent/guardian or club/group leader). Please bring a sack lunch\, curiosity to learn and plan to have a great\, fun-filled day. \nRegistration will be on-site at the starting location. \nOpen to 4-H and FFA members. DESCRIPTION:2017 Sheep/Goat Pre-show / Weigh-in \nThe Sheep and Goat pre-show / weigh-in will be held on Sunday\, June 11 from 3pm to 7pm at the Klickitat County Fairgrounds. 4-H members who plan to sell a market lamb or goat in the 2017 Klickitat County Fair Market Livestock Sale must be enrolled in 4-H through the 4-H Online (https://wa.4honline.com ) prior to the June 11 weigh-in date. See additional instructions for 4-H Online in the May issue of the 4-H Focus online. Call the Extension office at 509-773-5817 you have any questions. \nShearing for lambs will be available. The shearing fee per lamb will be deducted from the market sale check for that youth. \nReminder: Animals acquired outside of Washington should be accompanied by a certificate of veterinary inspection done prior to coming into the state. DESCRIPTION:Klickitat County 4-H Spring Break Horse Clinic – April 7\, 8 and 9 \nSpring Break is coming!! Don’t miss the 4-H Spring Break Horse Clinic April 7-9\, 2017 at the Klickitat County Fairgrounds. \nFriday\, April 7: Check-in and orientation at noon; Saturday and Sunday; April 8 and 9: Check-in and orientation at 7:30am (both days). Clinic runs Friday – 12:30pm-4pm; Sat. & Sun. – 8am-4pm. \nThe clinic focus will be on ground classes\, educational components\, Western and English horsemanship\, trail\, and gaming. \nEarly registration is appreciated. Cost is $50 per participant for full clinic or $30 per day for attending just one day. For families with three or more participants registering for the full clinic\, the cost is $40 per participant. \nParticipants will need to provide their own shavings. \nRegistration cost includes lunch (Saturday and Sunday) for clinic participants on those days. DESCRIPTION:Please join us in welcoming Hannah Brause!  We are hosting a “Meet and Greet” event to introduce her to the community.  We will have light refreshments available. \nHannah Brause has been named the new Washington State University Klickitat-Skamania County Extension Director and Agriculture and Natural Resource Unit faculty. \nAs County Director\, this position is responsible for fostering a strong and collaborative relationship with Klickitat and Skamania county government\, with the common goal to ensure continued partnership in providing outstanding WSU Extension programming. Her programming goals may include: improving livestock and crop production\, enhancing market access for farmers\, enhancing the economic viability and profitability of agriculture and natural resource businesses; and/or improved stewardship of natural resources. \nHannah graduated from Oregon State University where\, in 2005\, she earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science\, and\, in 2006\, a master’s degree in agricultural education. She grew up on a family farm in Northwest Oregon.\nHannah’s first day on the job in Klickitat was December 1. Please feel free to stop by the Extension office and welcome her to Goldendale.

SUMMARY:2nd Annual Simcoe Quilt Retreat
DESCRIPTION:The 2nd Annual Simcoe Quilt Retreat takes place Friday\, October 7 through 9\, 2016. This event is an educational fundraiser for supporting the Klickitat County 4-H program. The event will take place at the Goldendale Grange Hall at 228 E. Darland Street in Goldendale. Plan to come and spend a weekend quilting with your friends and make some new ones\, too\, while supporting a great program. Participants can also take a break and do some sightseeing while in our beautiful community.  \nSome of the activities and highlights:\n– Instruction for those wanting to learn how to quilt.\n– There will be fun projects to try and opportunities for “Show and Tell”\n– Prize drawings\, door prizes\, special visit with local quilter Nettie Browning\n– Meals are included in the cost\n– Not a quilter?  Not a problem.  Other projects are WELCOME! \n\nCost is $100 for the weekend. Space is limited. There will be a few sewing machines available on a first come\, first serve basis. Please bring your own machine\, if possible. DESCRIPTION:4-H Awards and Recognition: 4-H Achievement Day is Saturday\, October 1 \nThe annual 4-H Achievement Day will be held on Saturday\, October 1from 5pm to 7pm at the Goldendale Grange (new hall). Dinner will be provided beginning at 5pm. Spaghetti\, bread and salad will be served. Each 4-H family is asked to bring a dozen cookies for refreshments. \nAll 4-H members\, their parents and families and 4-H leaders are encouraged to attend this recognition event. Even if 4-H members did not submit a record book to be considered for county awards judging\, 4-H clubs are encouraged to attend and present a short summary of what their members did during the past year. Contact Linda Enderby at 509-773-3381 if your club would like to present a report. This is a great time to recognize and celebrate all the great things Klickitat County youth and leaders have accomplished this year! \n4-H Leader recognition and appreciation will also take place at this event to honor 4-H volunteers for their years of service so plan to attend and help us celebrate. \nExhibits that went to 4-H State Fair will be available for pickup as well as record books and other 4-H exhibits that were not picked up after county fair. \nDon’t forget: National 4-H Week is October 2 – 8\, 2016!
