{"id":1357,"date":"2020-05-07T15:32:37","date_gmt":"2020-05-07T22:32:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/pacific\/?page_id=1357"},"modified":"2020-05-28T10:29:37","modified_gmt":"2020-05-28T17:29:37","slug":"welcome-to-4-h","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/pacific\/youth\/welcome-to-4-h\/","title":{"rendered":"Welcome to 4-H!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><div class=\"cpb-row  pad-bottom gutter single\" style=\"\"><div class=\"cpb-row-inner\"><div class=\"cpb-column  one\" style=\"\"><div class=\"cpb-textblock cpb-item \"><p><\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"cpb-row  pad-bottom gutter side-right\" style=\"\"><div class=\"cpb-row-inner\"><div class=\"cpb-column  one\" style=\"\"><div class=\"cpb-textblock cpb-item \"><p><\/p>\n<header>\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: 1.6rem;letter-spacing: 0px\">What is 4-H?<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"article-content\">\n<div class=\"cpb-row pad-bottom gutter side-right\">\n<div class=\"cpb-row-inner\">\n<div class=\"cpb-column one medium column-size-600\">\n<div class=\"cpb-textblock cpb-item \">\n<p>4-H is built upon the principles of developing belonging, mastery, generosity and independence.<\/p>\n<p>Youth, ages 5 \u2013 19, participate in Washington through community clubs, after-school \/ school enrichment programs, and day \/ overnight camps.<\/p>\n<p>Kids can choose from a\u00a0wide variety of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/4h\/projects\/\">subject areas<\/a>\u2014everything from computer technology to the arts, and from robotics to plant and animal sciences.<\/p>\n<p>The 4-H program is a voluntary, non-formal, educational program offered to all boys and girls regardless of race, color, national origin, place of residence, or handicap.<\/p>\n<p>The curriculum is science-based and developed at our nation\u2019s land-grant universities. 4-H programs are delivered by Washington State University educators in every county alongside 10,000 caring adult volunteers.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"cpb-textblock cpb-item \">\n<h2>What do the H\u2019s in 4-H stand for?<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-10466 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.wp.wsu.edu\/uploads\/sites\/2073\/2019\/07\/Small-Icon.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"110\" height=\"144\" \/>4-H challenges you to think and make decisions, both for yourself and as a member of a group. You will discover new ways to do things and different ways of dealing with everyday challenges. 4-H is big on self-discipline, responsibility, initiative, and leadership. You will become a positive force in today\u2019s world.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-10474 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.wp.wsu.edu\/uploads\/sites\/2073\/2019\/07\/Small-Icon4-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"112\" height=\"147\" \/>4-H members often talk to club leaders and to each other about what matters to them. 4-H gives you a chance to become friends with other young people and caring adults. It is about building character, accepting people who are different, and making your community a better place to live.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-10482 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.wp.wsu.edu\/uploads\/sites\/2073\/2019\/07\/Small-Icon3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"114\" height=\"122\" \/>In 4-H, you learn skills that you can use for the rest of your life. You won\u2019t just talk about it, you will actually get your hands on it, learn by doing.
