The recently updated publication <a href=\"https:\/\/pubs.extension.wsu.edu\/use-care-and-operation-of-your-pressure-canner\">Use, Care and Operation of Your Pressure Canner<\/a> describes canner types, safety features, maintenance needs, and provides step-by-step illustrated use instructions.<\/div>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"article-content\">\n<div class=\"cpb-row pad-bottom gutter side-right\">\n<div class=\"cpb-row-inner\">\n<div class=\"cpb-column one medium column-size-600\">\n<div class=\"cpb-textblock cpb-item \">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0<a class=\"external_link\" href=\"http:\/\/nchfp.uga.edu\/publications\/uga\/using_press_canners.html\">pressure canner<\/a>\u00a0is a very important piece of equipment when it comes to\u00a0<a class=\"external_link\" href=\"http:\/\/nchfp.uga.edu\/how\/can_home.html\">home food preservation<\/a>. Just make sure to check rubber seals and safety plugs regularly for wear and replace when necessary.<\/p>\n<p>Dial gauge canners have a sensitive pressure gauge used to measure the internal pressure of the canner. As a delicate scientific instrument they can often be damaged or off to some degree.<\/p>\n<p>If the dial gauge on your pressure canner does not register correctly, you could be jeopardizing the safety of the food you preserve. To avoid any issues with the proper function of your pressure canner, you should have the dial gauge checked every year to insure it is reading correctly.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"cpb-textblock cpb-item \">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Can you use a pressure canner as a hot water bath canner?<\/h4>\n<p>If you have a Presto brand pressure canner, you may be able to use it as a hot water bath canner as well.
