Announcements from Vickie Blanchet, Leader Council Treasurer

 

MEMBERSHIP:

4HOnline Enrollment for the 2019/2020 4-H year is now open! Returning families may log in to begin the re-enrollment process and new families can create profiles and member records.  Full and partial scholarships are available to cover the $25 membership fee.  In order to receive a scholarship, current members must enroll and apply for scholarships by December 31st.  New members wanting a scholarships have until April 15th to enroll and apply for the scholarship.  All members receiving scholarships will be asked to help with a fundraiser during the year.

Any youth may enroll at any time during the year.  The deadlines only apply to those requesting scholarships.   Additionally, all youth who want to show under the 4-H banner at the fair must register by April 15th.  After April 15th, youth may exhibit in the Open Class at fair.

AWARDS DESSERT NIGHT:

Add the 4-H Recognition Dessert Night on November 16, 2019, to your calendars.  This is a time to recognize the many excellent 4-H youth and adults in Pend Oreille County.  Lots of awards, including project & year pins, the Kathy Olmstead Memorial Award for 4-H Excellence, Long-Standing Volunteer Award, and Most Hours Recorded Volunteer Awards will be given out.  More information to follow ASAP!

STATE FAIR REIMBURSEMENTS:

Those wishing to receive reimbursement for part of the expense involved in going to the State Fair must submit their request by November 21, 2019.  Send receipts and completed reimbursement request forms to the POC 4-H Leader Council, c/o Pend Oreille County Extension, PO Box 5045, Newport, WA  99156.

LEADER COUNCIL OFFICERS:

Sadly, our wonderful president, Heidi Vaughn, has resigned.  We are seeking nominations for Pend Oreille County 4-H Leader Council President.  If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Jessica Simon at 509.879.7355.

 

SeaPerch is an innovative underwater robotics program in which youth build a remotely operated vehicle (ROV), while learning about basic engineering and science concepts with a marine engineering theme.  The project culminates in a Regional Challenge at EWU in February, where youth compete in a variety of challenges.  The top two teams advance to the National Competition.  TECH Wizards will be offering the SeaPerch project on Tuesdays from 3:00-5:00 PM at the Pineridge Community Church, (1428 First Street, Newport), starting October 1, 2019.  For more information or to join the project, please contact Vickie Blanchet at 509.671.2428.

ADVANCED SEWING CLASS:  TECH Wizards will be offering a sewing project for advanced sewers on Tuesdays from 3:00-5:00 PM at Pineridge Community Church, (1428 First Street, Newport), starting October 1, 2019.  For more information or to join the project, please contact Vickie Blanchet at 509.671.2428.

4-H Leader Council

 

Join us for the next Leader Council meeting to be held at the WSU Extension Office, 227 S Garden Ave., Newport.  The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 17.  It will begin at 6:30 p.m.


Washington State 4-H Forum Registration Now Open – Submit Auction Items soon

 

Washington State 4-H is following the yellow brick road to find new adventures, 4-H friends, and 4-H strategies at the Washington State 4-H Forum! Forum is being held in Sea-Tac, Washington on October 11th-13th. Engage in workshops, listen to inspiring speakers, and build relationships with other counties of the Washington State 4-H Program!  We have great workshops including one from WSU Staff entitled “All Together but not All the Same” focusing on cultural lens and how they impact our connection to others, and learn strategies to work across differences in 4-H.  Join us for the Friday Night Awards Banquet which includes the Washington State 4-H Hall of Fame.  Auction items can boost your local 4-H Program with a boost of funding, so submit your auction items today!

Standard registration is due September 30th, with a $15 late fee for registrations past September 30th. Registrations are due by October 5th.

Washington 4-H Teen Rally – Hosted by Kittitas and Yakima Counties

 

Online Registration for Teen Rally has been EXTENDED!! Youth and adults may now register (pay) online until Tuesday, October 1st. Registration will remain open until October 15 — payments will need to be made by check after October 1st.
