The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) is a unique program that helps promote healthy eating, physical activity, and money saving food tips.  We partner with community agencies to provide group lessons for families and young adults with low incomes.  Our classes are interactive, centered around discussing practical application of nutrition information for participants’ unique needs and preferences, and setting goals.  Each lesson includes a fun physical activity, and opportunity to create and sample a budget- and family-friendly healthy recipe!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SNAP-Ed<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) is a federally funded program implemented by local agencies. SNAP-Ed strengthens SNAP\u2019s (previously known as Food Stamps) impact by addressing food and nutrition insecurity to improve nutrition and prevent or reduce diet-related chronic disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through WSU Pierce County Extension, SNAP-Ed staff use evidence-based research to provide education and be involved in policy, system, and environmental interventions to improve community health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The goal of SNAP-Ed is to improve the likelihood that people eligible for SNAP (Basic Food)<\/u><\/a> will make healthy choices within a limited budget and choose physically active lifestyles that follow current recommendations from the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2020-2025<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
