DESCRIPTION:Join WSU Regional Small Farms in an end of season sweetpotato grower round table.\nDid you grow sweetpotatoes this year? Are you interested in learning from the experiences of farmers who did? We learn new tips every year! For example\, did you know there’s a way to help a sweetpotato crop that has been ravaged by deer recover and produce a decent crop? Do did you have a particular pest or disease problem that you’d like to troubleshoot? Please join us for this evening round table discussion. \nRegistration Details \nDate: November 7th 2024 \nTime: 6pm – 7pm \nLocation: Online via Zoom (link will be provided after registration) \nAudience: Farmers\, Homesteaders and Producers Only \nRegistration link:\n \n  \nThis material is based upon work that is supported by the National Institute of Food and Agriculture\, U.S. Department of Agriculture\, under award number 2022-38640-37490 through the Western Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program under project number SW23-951. SUMMARY:Cover Crops for On-farm Water Conservation
DESCRIPTION:Cover Crops for On-farm Water Conservation and No-till Seed Drill Demonstration \nPresented by Clallam County Conservation District and WSU Extension Regional Small Farms Program. \nFree! \nFarmers who attend the event may be eligible to receive free cover crop seed for their farms from the Clallam Conservation District. \nIn agriculture\, cover crops are plants that are planted to cover the soil rather than for the purpose of being harvested. Using cover crops on your farm provides numerous benefits\, such as improving soil health\, slowing erosion\, controlling weeds and pests\, and enhancing water availability. This class will specifically focus on cover crops for soil and water conservation. Each year\, drought conditions are becoming especially hard on farmers\, who need consistent water to be able to grow their crops. In this class\, participants will learn how cover crops can be most effectively employed for the conservation of soil moisture and increasing water holding capacity. The last hour of the class will be spent on a nearby farm utilizing cover crops with a demonstration of a no-till seed drill\, a critical tool in the ever evolving climate-smart soil health practices. Participants are expected to drive to the farm on their own. Please dress for the weather and bring your own water and snacks if needed. \nDate: Thursday\, October 17th from 10am-1pm\nAddress: Crescent Board Room\, PUD #1 of Clallam County\, 104 Hooker Rd\, Sequim\, WA 98382\n*Address of nearby farm will be given after registration*\nIntended audience: farmers\, small acreage landowners/homesteaders\, crop and livestock producers. \nRegistration: Please only register if you plan to attend. Space is limited. If you cannot make the class please email Kellie Henwood at kellie.henwood@wsu.edu within 48 hours of scheduled event. \n \nThis class made possible with funding from the Washington Department of Ecology and Washington Conservation Commission’s Sustainable Farms and Fields Program. \nWSU Extension programs and employment are available to all without discrimination.
