SUMMARY:Vermicomposting and Worm-Bin Systems
DESCRIPTION:Dirt Talk Farm Walk: Vermicomposting and Worm-Bin Systems\nJoin Us for a Hands‐On Vermicomposting & Worm‑Bin Systems Farm walk at Roots Farm! \nFarmers and growers are invited to a practical\, on-the-ground tour at Roots Farm highlighting their Department of Ecology Public Participation Grant (PPG) vermicomposting project. This Farm Walk will feature a full range of worm‑composting systems—from simple\, low‑cost DIY setups to flow‑through units and larger farm‑scale worm bins—designed to turn local food scraps into high‑value fertility. \nParticipants will see each system in action and learn how they construct\, operate\, and maintain them under real farm conditions. Roots Farm will be sharing about how they collaborate with food banks and community partners to divert food waste from landfills\, and they will provide replicable designs that fit operations of all sizes\, from market gardens to diversified farms. \nA core theme of the class is building local resilience: creating on‑farm fertility using locally available waste streams to reduce dependence on off‑farm inputs—especially important during times of supply‑chain instability and rising input costs. \nDate: May 27th\, 2026\nTime: 5pm – 7pm\nLocation: Roots Farm Poulsbo\, WA – address will be given at time of registration\nSpeaker: Jen Clark\, Roots Farm\nAudience: Farmers \nRegistration Details: https://events.com/r/en_US/registration/dirt-talk-farm-walk-vermicomposting-and-worm-bin-systems-bremerton-may-1049962 \nPlease only register for the farm walk if you plan to attend as there is limited space for this event. If you register and are unable to come\, we kindly ask that you inform us at least 48 hours before the event so that we may open registration to other interested farmers. \nIf you go to register and there are no spaces available\, please email jess.sappington@wsu.edu to be put on our cancellation list. \nWSU Extension programs and employment are available to all without discrimination.
