{"id":11682,"date":"2025-06-02T14:44:37","date_gmt":"2025-06-02T21:44:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/sanjuan\/?page_id=11682"},"modified":"2025-06-02T14:45:10","modified_gmt":"2025-06-02T21:45:10","slug":"4-h-club-organizational-leader","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/sanjuan\/4h\/resources-for-clubs-and-volunteers\/4-h-club-organizational-leader\/","title":{"rendered":"4-H Club\/Organizational Leader"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Position Description<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When interacting with youth and adults, please keep in mind the Essential Elements of Positive Youth Development (Belonging, Mastery, Independence, and Generosity), and create opportunities for others to experience them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Engaging with youth:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Assists members and other leaders to enroll in 4H Online and select projects, and to<br>meet all required deadlines.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Helps members understand and practice parliamentary procedure and good social skills<br>within the group.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Builds youth leadership within the club (helps organize the election of officers, partners<br>older members with younger ones, etc.).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assists members plan, carry out, and evaluate their yearly 4-H program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teaches demonstration\/public presentation skills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensures that all members feel that they are an important part of the club.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provides guidelines and examples for completing the 4-H Record Book.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Consults, and uses as appropriate, 4-H curriculum to teach leadership skills or other<br>relevant topics.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supports 4-H\u2019ers in successfully completing their year according to the San Juan County<br>4-H Leaders Council Policy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Engaging with Club Officers:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Helps club officers with responsibilities, agenda items, and ways to include all members<br>so that they feel that they belong.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assists Treasurer with Annual Financial Summary Report due at end of the 4-H year<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Helps Junior and Teen Leaders understand their roles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Engaging with Parents\/Guardians<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Helps parents understand the purpose of 4-H and the opportunities available.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Involves parents in decisions about choosing projects, activities, completion of projects,<br>purchasing supplies, and estimating reasonable amounts of time and money.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Encourages parents to help their children do things that relate to 4-H projects and<br>activities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Encourages parents to attend 4-H meetings and to get involved with the club.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Engaging with Project and Activity Leaders:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Recruits parents\/guardians\/community members to serve as project and activity<br>leaders.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Helps leaders understand the project or activity leader\u2019s role and teen leadership roles.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provides leaders with names and addresses of project\/activity members in their groups.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Helps leaders locate sources of information for subject matter and leadership<br>techniques.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Meets periodically with project\/activity leaders.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Engaging with the County 4-H Program<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Keeps club informed of county programs and policy decisions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Has regular contact with the WSU Extension staff and key leaders.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Encourages leaders to attend appropriate leader training programs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Encourages the club to take part in county programs, events, and activities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Encourages club to have a representative at Leaders Council meetings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prepares club to participate in county 4-H fundraising activities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participates in Leaders Council and county project committees (livestock, horse, home<br>economics, dog, rabbit\/poultry\/cavy, etc.) if one exists.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Engaging with the Community<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Informs the community about 4-H and what the local club is doing (or engages club<br>reporter to do so).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Helps the club take part in community activities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Asks for help from the community when needed;
