{"id":11685,"date":"2025-06-02T14:53:54","date_gmt":"2025-06-02T21:53:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/sanjuan\/?page_id=11685"},"modified":"2025-06-02T14:53:54","modified_gmt":"2025-06-02T21:53:54","slug":"4-h-project-leader","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/sanjuan\/4h\/resources-for-clubs-and-volunteers\/4-h-project-leader\/","title":{"rendered":"4-H Project Leader"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Position Description<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When interacting with youth and adults, please keep in mind the Essential Elements of Positive<br>Youth Development (Belonging, Mastery, Independence, and Generosity), and create<br>opportunities for others to experience them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Engaging with youth:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Helps members to: identify project goals, create plans to reach them, and understand<br>project requirements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Consults, and uses as appropriate, 4-H curriculum to teach project skills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Uses a variety of teaching methods\u2014discussions, workshops, exhibitions, judging,<br>educational tours, demonstrations, and record keeping.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Encourages members to participate in 4-H project events and to exhibit their project at<br>the San Juan County Fair.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Holds project meetings to help members learn and to complete their 4-H projects.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supports 4-H members in successfully completing their 4-H year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teaches judging skills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Helps members with the project section of their record book.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Engaging with Parents\/Guardians<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Works with parents during project selection and decision-making.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Informs them of project expectations and opportunities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep them informed of project work and plans.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Engaging with the County 4-H Program<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Participates in Leaders Council and county project committees (livestock, horse, home<br>economics, dog, rabbit\/poultry\/cavy, etc.) if one exists.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participates in Livestock Market Animal Auction Committee (LMAAC) if project area is<br>included in the live auction.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Engaging with WSU Extension<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Keeps informed of current developments within the 4-H program and your project<br>area(s).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fulfills all volunteer requirements (for example: current enrollment, background check,<br>reporting volunteer hours, completing required training) as defined by the WSU<br>Extension Office and WA State 4-H.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Coordinates with local WSU Extension Office to complete three hours of continued<br>education that relates to volunteer work each 4-H year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If project area has a bank account, fulfills annual financial reporting requirements as<br>defined by WSU Extension and WA State 4-H.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>4-H Deadlines can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/sanjuan\/4h\/deadlines\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"2668\">Dates and Deadlines Page<\/a><\/p>\n\n        <div id=\"cahnrs-back-to-top\" class=\"cahnrs-back-to-top\" hidden aria-hidden=\"true\">\n            <a id=\"cahnrs-back-to-top-btn\" class=\"cahnrs-back-to-top__btn\" href=\"#product-top\" aria-label=\"Back to top\">\n                <span class=\"cahnrs-back-to-top__icon\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u2191<\/span>\n                <span class=\"cahnrs-back-to-top__label\">Back to top<\/span>\n            <\/a>\n        <\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Position Description When interacting with youth and adults, please keep in mind the Essential Elements of PositiveYouth Development (Belonging, Mastery, Independence, and Generosity), and createopportunities for others to experience them.
