{"id":11697,"date":"2025-06-02T16:05:21","date_gmt":"2025-06-02T23:05:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/sanjuan\/?page_id=11697"},"modified":"2025-06-02T16:07:09","modified_gmt":"2025-06-02T23:07:09","slug":"washington-4-h-horse-member-ethics-statement","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/sanjuan\/4h\/fair-and-auction\/washington-4-h-horse-member-ethics-statement\/","title":{"rendered":"Washington 4-H Horse Member Ethics Statement"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">For 4-H Members<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>I will be worthy of trust, honor, and confidence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I will respect all people, including myself.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I will be responsible, accountable, and self-disciplined in the pursuit of excellence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I will be just, fair, and open.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I will be caring in my relationships with others.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I am aware that my actions and decisions affect others, and will be a contributing and law-abiding citizen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4-H Pledge<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I pledge my head to clearer thinking, my heart to greater loyalty, my hands to larger service, and my health to better living, for my club, my community, my country, and my world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">San Juan County Fair 4-H Code of Conduct<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As a participant in 4-H, you have the responsibility of representing ALL members to the public. Therefore, you are expected to conduct yourself in a manner that respects individual rights, safety, and property of others, and reflects favorably on your state, county, club, as well as yourself. As a 4-H member, you are expected to observe the following guidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The possession and use of alcoholic beverages and\/or drugs other than prescribed medication is PROHIBITED. Tobacco use by youth members is prohibited, including anywhere on the fairgrounds.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Obscene and discriminatory language, roughhousing and insubordination will NOT be tolerated at any time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Members, Leaders, and Parents must demonstrate respect to others.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Display of overly affectionate attention between boys and girls is discouraged.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Damage to, or destruction of property belonging to others is strictly prohibited.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Animal abuse is prohibited: excessive jerking, spurring, whipping, slapping or other acts intended t cause<br>trauma or injury to the horse.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Display of unsportsmanlike conduct is prohibited.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dress APPROPRIATELY for the event, in a manner that reflects on the 4-H program in a positive way. Refer to the<br>San Juan County Fair dress code found in the Premium Book rules.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyone (other 4-H members, parents, leaders, fair staff) observing an infraction of this Code of Conduct must report promptly to the leader in charge. Parents and the 4-H program coordinator MUST be notified when penalties are necessary. If the infraction occurs on the fairgrounds during fair, the fair management MUST be notified as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Penalties for Infractions <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading  wsu-font-size--medium\">May include any or all of the following<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Sending a member home from the event immediately.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Barring a member from future 4-H events<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assessing the member the cost of damages and repairs in the event of damage or destruction of property.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Barring the member from receiving fair premiums, ribbons, and\/or awards.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Probationary periods may be invoked- allowing the member to participate in events, but cannot receive<br>rosettes, high-points, or participate at any level beyond San Juan County.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Termination of 4-H membership (youth or adult).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\">var
