San Juan County 4-H Excellence Fund<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Our aim is to reach as many youth as possible to help them learn valuable life skills. In addition to our traditional club programming, we can do this by offering increased after school activities, and by partnering with schools, family resource centers, and prevention coalitions, to name a few. Our San Juan County WSU Extension staff can access the 4-H Excellence Fund quickly and easily to sponsor these community-driven projects that might otherwise not get off the ground; especially in times so full of change as these, we have found this helpful. By contributing to our San Juan County 4-H Excellence Fund, you can help us in 4-H reach a wider audience and deliver positive youth development to even more members of our communities.<\/p>\n\n\n

4-H Educational Financial Support<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We have funding for educational support for 4-H youth and adults. This funding is provided through private donors, local foundations and service groups, as well as through grants, and our endowment. The 4-H Leaders Council disburses these funds for approved education, training, and attendance at annual member and leader events. The 4-H Leaders’ Council also governs funds set aside for college and vocational training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

San Juan County 4-H Endowment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The San Juan County 4-H Endowment supplements 4-H members\u2019 and volunteer leaders\u2019 fundraising efforts to create long-term financial stability and sustainability for Leaders Council funded educational activities. To meet the changing needs of our County\u2019s youth and to ensure a long-term quality 4-H program, a permanent source of funding is essential. The 4-H Endowment, managed by the Washington State Univerity Foundation, makes this goal possible.<\/p>\n\n\n

Annual 4-H Livestock and Still Life Auctions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the year, our 4-H members work hard to raise quality livestock projects – swine, beef, meat goat, lamb, laying hens, meat poultry, meat rabbits, and eggs. They also produce beautiful artwork, delicious baked goods and canned items, and a wide array of crafts. You can bid directly on items, and you can also make “add on” contributions to individual members. We welcome your enthusiastic support of their hard work at the annual 4-H livestock and still life auctions!<\/p>\n\n\n

Fair Awards<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Each year, we honor our 4-H members for the hard work they have invested in their projects. We recognize their leadership and skill in their project area. If you would like to sponsor an award for a department or a particular class at the San Juan County 4-H Fair, please contact the 4-H Program Coordinator 360-370-7662 \u2022 sanjuan.4-h@wsu.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4-H projects and program expansion is generously supported by several local granting groups including: The Honeywell Charitable Fund of The Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region, Orcas Island Community Foundation, United Way of San Juan County, The San Juan Island Community Foundation, The San Juan Island Prevention Coalition, San Juan County Health & Community Services Prevention Program, San Juan Island Community Network, and the local Granges. Local businesses provide direct funding support to individual clubs and for Fair activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To reach a greater number of youth through 4-H, we collaborate with many organizations. To name a few, we have joined forces with public and private island schools, San Juan Island Family Resource Center, San Juan Island Library, Lopez Island Family Resource Center, Orcas Island Prevention Programs, San Juan Island Prevention Coalition, San Juan Island Parks & Recreation, National Parks Service, and the Oregon Museum of Science & Industry.
