Skagit County Weekend Food Backpack Programs

We have a variety of weekend food backpack programs that usually operate within school districts from Anacortes all the way to Concrete. Distribution models range from food bank-led efforts (Sedro-Woolley & Mt. Vernon) to Rotary-led efforts (Burlington-Edison) to Skagit Valley Food Distribution Center-supplied backpacks (Burlington-Edison & Concrete), to volunteer organizations explicitly designed to distribute backpacks (Food2Go Anacortes). Check out the infographic below so see more!

An innovative weekend food delivery program called CHOW: Cutting Hunger on Weekends has been launched in Sedro Woolley and Mount Vernon school districts. 1095 staff worked with WWU student partners (Shelby Marber, Jeevan Noel, Maddie Lind, and Nicole Durham) detailing the CHOW’s social marketing program! Next to this report (on the right) is a comprehensive report by 1095’s former AmeriCorps VISTA member, Drew Gilliland, on Skagit County’s weekend food programs, and CHOW’s operations and development.
