SUMMARY:Skamania Pollinator Garden Work Day
DESCRIPTION:April 9th Skamania Pollinator Garden Work Day (Community Service Opportunity) Hegewald Building 1:00 pm – 4:00pm or when done.   \nSkamania County Noxious Weed received a grant to plant a Native Pollinator Garden on the Skamania County fairgrounds.  More hands are needed to help prepare the space on April 9th from 1:00 pm or whenever you can arrive until completed.  Tasks include: \n\nraking the garden site\nshoveling small tranches around the edges\nlaying cardboard down\nshoveling wood chips\n\nAdditional hands of all sizes are welcomed.  Tools will be provided but members are asked to make sure to wear gloves and appropriate footwear.  This is a great way to show how a few hours of light manual labor can eventually lead to something beautiful and give back to their community. \n*Events are not necessarily endorsed by Washington State University Extension or Washington State University 4-H. \n  \nWSU Extension programs\, employment\, and volunteer service are available to all without discrimination.  Concerns regarding potential discrimination may be reported through your local Extension office or directly to the WSU Office for Equal Opportunity\, web: oeo.wsu.edu\, email; oeo@wsu.edu\, phone: 509-335-8288.

SUMMARY:Annual Stevenson Clean-Up Day
DESCRIPTION:Leaders in Service April 29th Work Party Press Release \nCONTACT INFORMATION: \nCasey Roeder\, Executive Director \nSkamania County Chamber of Commerce \nPO Box 1037 \nStevenson\, WA  98648 \n509-427-8911 \ncasey@skamania.org \n  \nPRESS RELEASE \n  \nSTEVENSON PITCHES IN FOR ANNUAL CLEAN-UP DAY\, SATURDAY\, APRIL 29 \n  \n(Stevenson\, WA – April 17\, 2017)  The winter of 2017 wreaked havoc on Skamania County and the Columbia Gorge as a whole.  Dry weather and the promise of spring has inspired many folks to get out and clean up some of the mess created by the ice\, snow and wind.  The Stevenson Business Association (SBA) is doing its part by organizing the fifth annual Stevenson Clean-Up Day on Saturday\, April 29\, 2017. \n  \nThe business owners of the SBA are asking people around Stevenson to show their community spirit and prepare for the upcoming tourist season by rolling up their sleeves and pitching in to perform “spring cleaning” in Stevenson. \n  \nAll businesses\, public and private agencies and citizens are encouraged to volunteer their time to show pride in their city to visitors and residents alike.  The Stand Up 4 Teens Youth Prevention Club are on board again this year.  The Stevenson office of Windermere Real Estate plans to participate.  April 29 is also National 4-H Day of Service\, and local 4-H club members may fortify the efforts.  A group from iQ Credit Union will be on hand to help.  Any and all people in our community are welcome. \n  \nThe fun begins at 8:30 am in the Skamania County Chamber parking lot at 167 NW Second Street.  Teams will be created and tasks assigned at this time.  Projects include branch pick-up\, weeding\, debris removal\, power washing\, blackberry eradication and much more.   Volunteers are invited to bring their own hand tools\, weed eaters\, brooms\, leaf blowers\, etc.  Two hours\, four hours or all day – whatever time commitment people can make that day will be greatly appreciated. \n  \nPeople unable to arrive at 8:30 am can check in throughout the day at the Chamber office for directions to project sites.  The day will culminate around 4:00 pm. \n  \nThis year\, local businesses are providing discounts for incentive.  When volunteers check out from their task they will receive vouchers providing a 10% discount for that day (Saturday\, April 29) at Andrew’s Pizza\, Walking Man Brewing and El Rio Texicantina.  Andrew’s will also offer $3 beer with the voucher.  A & J Select Market will be barbecuing that day as well and those helping out will get a free lunch. \n  \nFor more information on the Stevenson Clean-Up Day\, contact the Skamania County Chamber of Commerce at 509-427-8911.

SUMMARY:Northwest Junior Sheep Exposition
DESCRIPTION:Here is the 2017 premium book for the Northwest Junior Sheep Exposition (NWJSE)\, which also contains entry forms.   The show will take place on Friday and Saturday\, July 14 & 15\, in conjunction with the Washington State Sheep Producers’ Ram and Ewe Sale.  This is a great opportunity for the two events to engage with each other and for the young to learn from the “veterans” and for the “veterans” to learn a thing or two from the youth!  Scheduling will be tight and will require cooperation and flexibility from all individuals involved. \n  \nThe show will again be held at the Grant County Fairgrounds in Moses Lake\, Washington.  To ensure pen availability\, please make sure entry forms are received by defined entry dates above.  Extra animals not entered by the entry dates cannot be exhibited or penned at the NWJSE.  Please take time to read the premium book\, noting dates\, entry requirements\, general rules and those for specific classes. Please note that there are two entry dates.  Market Lamb entry forms are due May 1\, 2017.  This is to allow official weigh sheets to be distributed and lambs weighed between May 5-14\, 2017.  Weigh forms will be sent to area show representatives (Extension Educator\, Ag Instructor\, 4-H Leader\, or an identified area sheep producer).  Please make arrangements with these individuals to ensure that your lambs are weighed by May 15 and the forms are returned to the Grant-Adams Extension office no later than May 31.  Please note that the days on test have been shorted and weigh dates have been pushed back.  We are hoping that this change will encourage more individuals to enter in the market division\, as they will have more time to select/purchase lambs for this contest.  The Breeding Sheep\, Feeder Lamb\, and Activity Entry Forms are due by June 15\, 2017.
