SUMMARY:Upcycled Art Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Create beautiful collage art using recycled paper you can find around the house!\n  \nJoin volunteers from WSU Snohomish County Extension Sustainable Community Stewards to create upcycled art and learn how to reduce waste in Snohomish County. We encourage participants to bring old magazines\, newspapers\, and other paper materials from home for collaging. We will provide all other supplies for collaging. \nThe workshop begins with a short presentation on reducing your impact on the Earth. The sustainability coordinator will explain how art can be a mode for positive environmental change. Then\, an art teacher will lead a guided collage activity using recycled paper. \nAdditionally\, participants will use X-Acto knives for the collaging portion\, but there is a 13 and up restriction. SUMMARY:Styrofoam Recycling Collection Event
DESCRIPTION:Free Styrofoam Recycling Collection for Earth Day\nDo you have Styrofoam occupying your home? Filling up garages\, corners\, and closets? Then bring your (clean) Styrofoam to our FREE collection event on Saturday\, April 26th from 12pm to 2pm at the Carnegie building in downtown Snohomish.\n\n\n\nVolunteers from the Snohomish County WSU Sustainable Community Stewards and Green Snohomish will be waiting in the parking lot at 105 Cedar Ave.\, Snohomish\, WA 98290 to collect your Styrofoam. At the end of the event\, the material will be trucked down to Styro Recycle in Kent.\n\n\n\nCollection will take place from 12pm to 2pm. Be sure to check out the Green Snohomish Earth Day at the Carnegie building from 1pm to 4pm before or after you drop off your Styrofoam.\n\n\n\n\n\nAccepted items:\nCLEAN\, DRY\, TAPE AND LABEL FREE\n\nStyrofoam to-go containers and food trays\nBagged Styrofoam packing peanuts (Please check that they are not the biodegradable kind)\nBubble wrap\nLPDE #4 foam\nStyrofoam block packaging\, coolers\, and sheets\nPink\, blue\, or gray XPS foam insulation.\n\n\n\nUnaccepted items:\n\nSpray-in foam\nInsta-Pak foam\nGrey insta-pak foam\nFoil-lined foam\nHot tub covers\n\nStyrofoam is an environmental hazard that cannot be traditionally recycled in your curbside bin or at material recovery facilities. Additionally\, it’s a potential carcinogen and can become litter in local ecosystems. In western Washington\, one of few places that publicly accepts Styrofoam for recycling is Styro Recycle in Kent. That’s quite a distance for many folks in Snohomish County to drive to recycle some Styrofoam. So\, we hope to remove that barrier with our events. \nAfter processing\, Styro Recycle sends the material to manufacturers. They turn it into crown molding\, picture frames\, and other new objects. \n\n\nFunded by Snohomish County Solid Waste and organized by WSU Snohomish County Extension Sustainable Community Stewards. For questions\, email the coordinator Kellee Byard at kellee.byard@wsu.edu or call 425-357-6027
