Bring it to a WSU Repair Café!\n\n\n\nYou can bring your household goods and our fixers will diagnose the issue and do their best to make it usable again for FREE. They will show you their process\, order parts if necessary\, and help you learn how to do it yourself with one-on-one instruction. Our fixers can repair your items and keep stuff from being tossed in the landfill! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSteps To Participate:\n\n\n\n\nArrive at the Snohomish Library between 10am and 2pm.\n\n\n\nRepair Specialists will be on-site to help with your item and will work with you on repairing.\n\n\n\nPlease arrive before 1PM for most repairs\, as the last hour is usually filled with completing repairs rather than taking on new projects.\n\n\n\n\nPlease note:\n\n\n\n\nWe cannot fund the cost of any additional parts needed. If your item needs a part for repair\, our volunteer will contact you to discuss this with you.\n\n\n\nWe don’t guarantee repairs\, and we are not responsible for any damages from attempting to repair an item. So\, you must sign a liability release form before seeing a repair specialist.\n\n\n\nAt these free repair events\, we may decline to work on any item – in advance or at the event – depending on the item\, the type of repair needed\, the fixers available\, or for other reasons. We cannot work on cell phone batteries or screens\, or Apple product hardware.\n\n\n\nTwo item maximum per event. Then bring your (clean) Styrofoam to our FREE collection event on Saturday\, August 29th from 10am to 12pm (2-hour collection window) to the western parking lot in McCollum Park!\n\nThe Snohomish County WSU Sustainable Community Stewards will be waiting in the parking lot near the old swimming pool at 600 128th St. SE\, Everett\, WA to collect your Styrofoam\, which will then be transported to Styro Recycle in Kent by the Marysville Food Bank.\n\nWe will collect material until we reach capacity. As a result\, the event may end before 12pm. DESCRIPTION:Overview\nGet ready to learn how to be a sustainable community steward at our volunteer training series – join us and make a difference!\n\n\n\nBecome a WSU Snohomish County Extension Sustainable Community Steward and learn what can and can’t be recycled\, how to reduce waste\, and why individual and community-level actions make a difference towards climate change. Become more engaged in your local community by enrolling in this fall’s training sessions. \nThose who sign up will receive university-level training grounded in climate change science relevant both within Snohomish County and globally. The training shapes participants into informed community educators and prepares them for a volunteer commitment of at least 3 events a year. A combination of engaging classroom presentations and discussions paired with behind-the-scenes field trips highlight this educational and community engagement opportunity. \nSchedule\nThe training is every Wednesday evening starting September 10th and ending November 5th\, from 6 – 8:30 p.m. There will be 4 in-person classes at the WSU Snohomish County Extension office at Willis Tucker Park\, 6705 Puget Park Dr.\, Snohomish\, and 3 classes will be on Zoom. Here is the schedule: \n\nIn-person: October 7th\nZoom: October 14th\nIn-person: October 21st\nZoom: October 28th\nIn-person: November 4th\nZoom: November 11th\nIn-person: November 18th\n\nTraining includes an overview of environmental sustainability and climate change solutions with a deep dive into waste reduction and recycling right. DESCRIPTION:Includes a discussion on site selection\, raised beds\, planning your crop calendar\, plant families\, inter-cropping\, succession planting\, and crop rotation. We’ll also talk about raising vegetables in containers including container types\, soil\, drainage\, fertilizer\, irrigation\, and strategies for maximizing your harvest. \nSpeakers:\nDiane Decker-Ihle has been a Snohomish County Master Gardener since 1990 and an avid gardener most of her life. She helped establish the WSU Extension Snohomish County Growing Groceries Program in 2009 and has been teaching Growing Groceries classes ever since.  She has been an advisor for several community gardens and managed her church’s food bank garden for many years. With B.S. degrees in biology and medical technology\, Diane enjoys learning the science behind the sustainable gardening techniques she teaches. \nLynn Riley\, a Washington State native\, has been growing vegetables most of her adult life\, first in pea patches around Seattle and later at her home in Snohomish County. A Master Gardener since 2015\, she enjoys growing food for family and friends and sharing her knowledge about vegetable gardening. Lynn currently serves as coordinator for the Kitchen Garden at the Master Gardener Demonstration Garden at Jennings Park in Marysville. DESCRIPTION:Learn how to grow food in small spaces. One of the best ways to maximize a small gardening area is to use containers\, pots and raised beds. These options offer flexibility and control over the growing environment\, making them perfect for beginners or those with limited space. SUMMARY:Growing Groceries: Seed Starting and Growing Transplants
