SUMMARY:Sustainable Community Stewards Spring 2026 Volunteer Training
DESCRIPTION:Sustainable Community Stewards Spring 2026 Training\nBecome a Waste Warrior!\nJoin the WSU Snohomish County Extension Sustainable Community Stewards and learn what can and can’t be recycled\, how to reduce waste\, and why individual and community-level actions make a difference towards climate change. Engage yourself with the sustainability movement by enrolling in our training series this spring! \nThose who sign up will receive university-level training grounded in climate change science relevant both within Snohomish County and globally. The training shapes participants into informed community educators and prepares them for a volunteer commitment of at least 3 events a year. A combination of engaging classroom presentations and discussions paired with behind-the-scenes field trips highlight this educational and community engagement opportunity. \nSchedule\nSchedule \nThe training is every Wednesday evening starting May 13th and ending June 10th\, from 6 – 8:30 p.m. These are in-person classes held at the WSU Snohomish County Extension office in Willis Tucker Park\, located at 6705 Puget Park Dr.\, Snohomish. There will also be at least three field tours: \n\nHousehold Hazardous Waste Facility\n\nThursday\, May 21st | 10am – 12pm\n\n\nWM Cascade Recycling Center in Woodinville\n\nThursday\, May 28th | 1pm – 3pm\n\n\nCedar Grove Compost in Everett\n\nFriday\, June 5th | 10am – 12pm\n\n\n\nTraining includes an overview of environmental sustainability and climate change solutions with a deep dive into waste reduction and recycling right. The training features presentations on environmental justice\, food waste prevention\, and the circular economy as well as home composting and DIY eco-friendly cleaning product demonstrations. Classes will feature speakers from WSU Extension\, Republic Services\, Seattle REconomy\, Zero Waste Washington\, and more. \nThe course costs $40\, with accommodation and fee-waivers available upon request. WSU Snohomish County Extension programs are open to all without discrimination. Register before April 12th for 10% off. \nRegister here!\nThe fee on Eventbrite covers all 5 classes and field tours \n  \n \nCommunity Educators\nOnce trained\, volunteers then give back to the community by sharing what they learned through various events\, projects and activities. Sustainable Community Stewards pledge to volunteer during at least 3 events in one year. \nOne 2025 Sustainable Community Steward had this to say at the end of their training\, “I have loved this class! I am so much more aware of my impacts now. I think each day about what changes I can make and have made since I started the training. I’ve gained a great new perspective\, and new friends.” \nThere are a variety of volunteer opportunities\, including recycling collection events\, Repair Cafés\, sustainability workshops\, our quarterly newsletter\, waste-sorting at events\, and more! \nRegister before April 12th for 10% off. For more information\, visit the Sustainable Community Stewards website\, contact Kellee.byard@wsu.edu\, or call 425-357-6027. \nReasonable accommodations will be made for persons with disabilities and special needs who contact Kellee Byard at (425) 357-6027 or kellee.byard@wsu.edu at least three weeks prior to the event date. \nExtension programs and policies are consistent with federal and state laws and regulations on nondiscrimination regarding race\, color\, gender\, national origin\, religion\, age\, disability\, and sexual orientation.
