SUMMARY:Wet Feet Farming Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Are you struggling to farm on saturated fields? Are you finding it more and more difficult to plant crops in the spring\, get equipment onto fields\, graze animals\, or cut hay due to wet conditions? \nMany farms in our region are facing challenges with increasingly wet fields due to upland development\, failing drainage infrastructure\, and changing weather patterns. Join Snohomish Conservation District Agroforester\, Carrie Brausieck\, for a “Wet Feet Farming” webinar to learn more about this emerging issue and—more importantly—solutions! \nYou’ll learn about: \n· Agroforestry techniques that offer an alternative to draining excess water from fields\, allowing you to hold water on the land that may be critical in summer months. \n· Demonstration sites that have already been planted and lessons learned about these new innovative cropping opportunities. \n· Crops with growing market potential\, such as aronia berry\, that allow for increased production while also increasing water holding capacity in soils and habitat for pollinators and beneficial insects. \nBonus: You’ll also learn how you can incorporate rain gardens into your farm to reduce stress on field tile\, decrease runoff\, increase pollinator activity\, and more! \nAnyone interested in agroforestry is welcome to attend! The webinar is free\, and will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday\, March 14\, 2024. Pre-registration is required. Please visit the registration page for more details: https://forestry.wsu.edu/nps/events/wetfeetfarm/. \nThis program is an educational partnership between Washington State University Extension and the Snohomish Conservation District. This Program is made possible in part by funding from Washington State Department of Agriculture and the Department of Ecology. \nFacebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/926346585414259
